When telkom upgrade to the new ADSL 2+ technology then most of the old client must get new modems coz i think the old modems can only run normal adsl and adsl 2 and not adsl 2+

I might be wrong - but I think that Telkom has been running adsl2+ now for some time. Since I moved over to ADSL my modem has allways been showing adsl2+ (Billion 7300RA) I never selected it - it just worked with adsl2+ from day one

mines working on adsl 2+ module so must be on adsl 2+ already

checked that i can support up to 12 mbits with this :P

lol whats with everyone mentioning the word 'imminent' in every telkom related thread?

I think the majority routers/modems are ADSL2+ compliant

I think it's safe to say if your router is syncing at less than 8Mb/s, you are using ADSL1.
Just because your router has built-in support for ADSL2+ doesn't mean your using it.

If it was as simple as changing a setting in your router I would've switched over to ADSL2+ long ago

what are your guys comments on these's

my line is a 384 syncing at 384 on WebAfrica 10 gig test account

should I retest tomorrow?

Good point! Hence the difference in speeds between the Jhb and NY servers.

I'm pretty sure one would be able to use lower than 8MBps on an ADSL2+ network.

I don't see why they should upgrade to ADSL2/2+. Standard ADSL G.DMT supports up to 8192kbps, and indeed my exchange's DSLAM hasn't been upgraded at all. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to know I'm syncing into the latest greatest equipment; but all i'm saying is it's not required for 8Mbps DSL, which if you ask me will be the upper limit in terms of the upgrade, if it even happens...

Seems like Multichoice and Telkom are going to have to fight over that trademark...
