Hi guys can someone please help me?
I am wanting to get an ADSL self install and need to figure out the cost.
Here is what I am looking for:
ADSL 3 or 4 gig 1024 mb line.
How much would it be with Telkom and a service provider in total?
I understand Telkom is offering the self install special so you get the free modem and free install.
How much would one be in for per month either with Telkom ISP or any other ISP and the monthly Telkom subs?

Thanks guys.

Monthly line rent for a 1024 mb ADSL line is R516.00(inc.Vat)
You now have to add the ISP cost for your 3GB or 4GB account on top of that.

Ok so no matter what, Telkom charges R516 incl. Then one has to look for a 1024mb ADSL ISP. That is the hardest part I suppose ? So any idead about a good ISP besides Telkom? Thanks mOzy.

Basic costs as follows:
Line rental R100
Adsl up to 4mbps R516
Telkom internet 2Gig R199 (Would normally provide you with a minimum of 4Gig actual usage but not guaranteed)
WebAfrica prepaid at R70/Gig as backup

If you can use the benefits of the closer 5 option you can get above at an effective saving of about R100

Does it matter to your ISP whether you are on a 512 or 1024 then? As they do not advertise much on the speeds but rather on the cap.

Most isps do not place restrictions on download speed only cap.

I would say go with Axxess. But in the end it's up to you. Just stay away from IS based ISP's as the speeds are bad.

Do ISPs that offer the local bandwidth shape that as well?

<half-jokes>Yes, it matters very much. If u on 1024 then u can use up more bandwidth more quickly and then have to give them more money when u run out... so that option costs more. Capiche? U pay them more for the privilege of the opportunity to pay them more! </half-jokes> Only being half-serious here, so ignore me ;)
*some ISPs do charge more depending on your DSL connection speed

Why is there 512k and 1024k uncapped listed then? Is this a software throttle on the ISP side if you use a 512k account on a 1 or 4Mb line?
