So I have a 4mb line with telkom and normally it syncs at around 4000 but lately its been syncing at 2500.
I phone telkom and they "reset the port" and I am back at around 4mbs but this does not fix the problem for long.

I've checked my line attenuation and it stable @ around 52db so I basicaly cant go any faster than 4mbs in my area atm, but seening as I am getting 4mb and after a telkom reset my pings in games are 30-50% better.

Even had telkom come to the house the other day and when he went to work on the box , and when he left I was back on 4mb but 2 days later 2,5mbs. and after this story about line speeds. It leads me to wonder if telkom have me running on 2mbs on purpose. I am not going to pay for 4 if they giving me 2 and I dont want 2 when i can get 4. This is so annoying.

Is Telkom just clocking down my speed because the area congested?
They phoned me the other day to offer me a special on 10mbs but there is no way i am able to get that in my area, they just trolling me now.

Why oh why can't they bring fiber to my area or even town. :(

I had the same problem. Phoned Telkom technical and they said my line is supposed to be on 10Mbps so I should check with accounts. I then phoned accounts and asked them why my 10Mbps line has now become a 2Mbps (2.5Mbps to be exact) line?

She said she's not sure, but my line had been in wholesale a few weeks ago and maybe that's why. She then proceeded to change my line to 10Mbps on the accounts side and all was back to normal thereafter.

I have the exactly the same issues here. Busy on the line to telkom as we speak... I will make a point of phoning them whenever I have issues... maybe if we all do that they will realize that ASSIA is a flop

I think I must phone the accounts section since my line is constantly sync'ing to 2,5mbs now

how ling did the fix last?

3 days fixed it saturday, back to 2,5 by monday.

this is like the 3rd time reporting it this month, normally it's 5 min on the phone and the reset it, but the last time they tried but it didnt work so they sent a tech out.

So far since Monday the 8th of Feb, so 9 days and going.

Best is just to phone accounts and ask them what speed you are on according to them. Then you can take it from there if necessary.

Sounds like ASSIA that checks your line every midnight and syncs you slower.

I have the exact same problem! My 4Mbps line is running at 2.5Mbps. I've been trying to get this resolved for a while now but not having any luck at all. Also there are some sites I can't access at all, speedtest.net, siax.co.za and deviantart.com for example. My line quality is excellent, easily capable of +8Mbps.

have the same problem, even same att., best way i've found so far, set your adsl modulation to g.dmt, should make things a bit more stable.

Exactly what I did, syncing @ 5120Kbps now, had 50db att before I switched now synced @ 46db. But do you find sometimes the next morning that your internet light is down, but your sync light is solid?. obviously rebooting works, was just wondering if I was the only one

hmm i haven't noticed that specifically, but i have noticed that sometimes my internet stops responding for a bit. Will check the router next time.
Also, mine is also syncing at 5120, thanks to TelkomZA :D

lol TelkomZA also helped me, awesome support :D...My internet also stops responding for a few seconds but then its up again, could be a bit-swap issue I mean ADSL G_Dmt is not exactly the best, but for crappy ,long distance lines like mine and yours its perfect !, I'm not complaining its a 5mb line so ja :p..

I tried to switch my routers ADSL mode to G.DMT but then the router battles to sync. When it does it syncs at full speed but loses sync within a few seconds... Any advice?

battling to sync at 10mbps? whats your line attenuation? if you sure your routers working fine then you got to check environmental
factors. If you got an electric fence is it sparking or earthed properly? Does your phone cable run near power cable in you house or is your lighting florescent etc.. you may just need to settle for 6 or 8 mbps line speeds.

Im on a 4MB line. All is fine and the stats are not showing any issues (dont have them with me but have been keeping an eye on them). My line works fine if I set the modulation to auto, just .dmt thats not wekking....

So after another long call with our firends over at telkom they decided to move me to a "less congested port". Currently my 4MB line is syncing at 4608 :D hope this lasts

Same with me. I use to get 8MB fine. Then it started dropping to 6Mb, 4Mb. So I changed my profile to 4MB now it's syncing at 2.5MB so it's just getting worse.

Soon we will have to cancel ADSL and get something else.

Problems are back! Sigh! We it works its great but when it doesn't well then i am screwed, its not like I can run off to anything better
