ADSL 640kb upstream?

Hi photonman,

Thanks. 512 up and running. Thanks for the profile change as well.

Speedtest results to JHB

91ms Ping
2934 kb/s downstream
422 kb/s upstream

You're the man

Ok let me ask a total noob question here. If I don't ask I won't know :o Do I have to reboot the router (which is in bridged mode) to see if it is synced at a higher speed, and if so for how long? Cause last night it was still synced to 384

I wasn't at home when mine was upped and I got home to find it syncing at 640kbps up.

Thanks photonman! Don't you ever sleep ;-)

@pjjdp: "profile change", what's that?

I'm sure it has been explained here somewhere. Basically it means:

4MB line not guaranteed.
Due to line problems, distance and noise, Telkom will reduce your sync speed until they get a stable sync. This will then be your profile. Profile change is then just taking it back to 4mb.

We use to get only 1Mb downstream and 384Kb upstream sync because they say we have a bad line. Now on "default" profile, it's ok up to 4Mb again, but for how long. They will probably start syncing lower and lower if there are problems.

The problem imho - is that the DSLAM <---> router training should properly train in 32kb sync increments as they do overseas.....if it cannot hold stable - go lower until it achieves minimum sync - like for example 384 is 192 .... (it happens here in a way - but not 32kb and in an orderly fashion)

I've also had a stable 4096 sync for about 3 months until the severe thunderstorms got to me - and couldn't sync for 2 days until i phoned to downgrade to 2048......

so the dslam needs a more stable training setup.

Is photonman still dishing out awesome?

I'm currently syncing on 384kb upstream (4mb), any chance of sharing the love? Would love to get up to 640kb. :D

Ineed.

Photoman upgraded me. Just PM him and he'll do it.

What a fantastic guy:D

i can confirm that mine was upgraded, but only to 512. wasnt it supposed to be 640?

512 is giving me 52KB/s upload speed, 640 will give something in the region of 80KB/s !!

Netgear FTW
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 10 db 2.5 db
Noise Margin 16 db 12 db

Thx photonman, keep up the good work! may the force be with you
