Hi, I'm having a brain-fart and need a hand please. From what i "know" and read up on the net this should just work.

I've got a
* telkom LTE router (IP 192.168.8.1) with DHCP on
* telkom ADSL router (IP 192.168.8.3) with DHCP off

Both on the same subnet 255.255.255.0.

What I want to do is switch between LTE (.1) and ADSL (.3) when needed, because LTE sucks hard now and again.
Will just change default gateway to either .1 or .3 on my PC running static IP (192.168.8.33 / 255.255.255.0 / 192.168.8.1 or 3)

Using 8.8.8.8 google open DNS (tried others also) on my PC

What is working
I can access .1 and .3 web gui from my PC (.33) when my default gateway is set to .3 or .1.
When default gateway is set to .1 on my PC (.33), internet works fine

Now the problem
When default gateway is set to .3 on my PC (.33), internet she dead. No DNS looks ups, no pings to ext IP, no tracert, nothing working.

Ive checked/done
* "netstat -rn" routes looks fine
* flused dns
* restarted pc
* tracert on ADSL gateway to external IP - first hop to .3, after that nothing, dead... dead ... timeouts.
* tracert on LTE gateway to external IP - first hop to .1, then other hops outside world.

Running windows 10.

what am i doing wrong here? Any suggestion/input appreciated.

Just a guess here. Is NAT enabled on the .3 router?

Did you confirm that the ADSL router is connected and got IP from ISP? Can you log in on web interface of router and ping something on the internet from the router? Your trace route show that your pc get to the router, but the router doesn't send traffic to the net.

The rest of your setup seems fine, bit manual, but fine.

thanks guys got it sorted. funky thing was happening.

Tested laptop plugged straight into ADSL .3, works fine on gateway .3
changed to gateway .1 works fine

Then tested laptop straight into LTE .1, works fine on gateway .1
changed to gateway .3 doesn't work

Now i'm baffled, tries straight into .3 again and both gateways work.

So modified network layout a bit, with .1 and .3 now going into switch, where .1 and .3 use to be linked straight.

So now tested laptop into switch and can change between gateway .1 and .3 and both works fine.

So looks like .1 didn't allow net traffic to .3, but .3 allows net traffic to .1.

Thanks for the help guys

PS. It's a HUAWEI B315s-936 LTE router and DSL was a Dlink DSL-2760U if anybody else is having this issue.

Can you draw a rough network topology of this and post.
I am interested in setting up mine the same way

Thanks,
Just wondering:
How do you have wifi configured in both routers?

Can you change the gateway on a wifi connection and switch between Internet 1 and Internet 2?

Doing something similar but left ADSL router to manage DHCP.

WiFi wise, the router that isn't serving DHCP will have problems but should work fine.

I connect to Router 1 and change the gateway and dns as needed.

Set both DNS and gateway to the router you are using. Set Google DNS in router level.

I've got a separate UniFi AP-LR wifi unit, but you can change gateway on wifi on phone/tablet.laptop, just need to assign static IP and gateway.

Sounds like you have the setup that I want at home.

Two separate internet connections
1. 3G connected to router 1
2. Adsl connected to router 2

One wifi SSID that many devices can connect to.
4 laptops
2 smart phones
4 tablets
1 DVR - connected via LAN cable

Each device on wifi LAN can be configured to either use 3G or adsl exclusively.

Would you mind updating that network topology again to include how you have the unifi AP and perhaps mention what switch you are using,

Please , thanks

Tried that also, didn't work.
Pho3nix is right, it is a requirement for other reason. If you don't, DNS relay on B315s pretending to be DNS server will always route DNS requests through the cellular connection. It might be not enough due to the DNS caching on PC. In this situation it is better to set static Google DNS on the router, so every time you plug in the cable, PC will acquire new DHCP settings (including DNS) and (hopefully) force refreshing internal caching tables.

B315s do not have option for static DNS, but something can be done by tweaking, see: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showth...x-for-new-Huawei-HiLink-devices-(E5186-B315s). Alternatively disable DHCP on B315s and enable on DSL router, hopefully it allows static DNS.

Your original problem might be related to using port LAN4/WAN on B315s. If you have to, change on the configuration page from 'Automatic' to 'LAN'

If everything goes wrong it is easy to fix problem by enabling DHCP server on both routers but power on only one in the same time. If using the switch, unplug/replug cable on the PC to reset connection, it will always work. :)
