Connected the PS3 to my wireless network.

How much data is updating my PS3 gonna use up on my cap?

I have never hooked up a gaming console to the net before, what else can i do having set all this up? And again, what kind of data usage are we talking about here?

How long is a piece of string? :p

Depends on the game methinks.

the ps3's firmware update will be +- 100-130mb

A games patch could be from 600mb all the way to 2000mb

so i really don't know what you are trying to point out...

Not trying to point out anything, just trying to find out how much data i would be using up, doing the firmware update.

And what else i can do with my console now that its hooked up to the Internet.

lol being a bit defensive there Scotty?

I have never heard of a game patch being anywhere near as big as Scotty mentioned.

The firmware upgrades are normally between 100mb and 130mb as Scotty said, the Xbox 360 gaming updates are rarely bigger than 10Mb and I would expect the PS3's games to be the same.

It's just a patch to fix bugs. If you are downloading new content then that is something entirely different.

Yip, as Scotty said, Firmware upgrades variate between 110 and 130 megs. Patches can be anything really from 11 meg (COD4) to 100. ( Rarely will a patch be more than this)
Online gaming is pretty standard and depending on the game, voice chat etc, it's really not bandwidth extensive at all.

Thanks for the info guys.

Appreciate it.

wait wait wait... i think it was resistance which had a monster 600mb patch (on another game i pawned off because it was utterly useless you me). yes, a patch can be a simple "fix the bug" or a complex "oh sh*t, we need to fix this, starting with the whole game)

remember... you don't need to get patch's on games unless there's a fantastic bug, which annoys you the the end of the earth and back, or you play online(and sometimes, the losers who play online annoy me to the ends of the earth, and mostly you can here there gross pimples and zits laughing at his own jokes)

but what you really want is firmware upgrades, they fast, easy and add features like wma play back and the dvix support (Oh how i wonder why the is a feature and not a require meant, which should be enforced with such stringent rules that those companies who break them will incur the death by bamboo grown up the anus and then split them in half)

lol
