Is it true that Telkom are discontinuing ADSL from 1 September, 2020?
 
No, it's not true. Telkom just offered me a 2-year ADSL contract.

I recently cancelled my ADSL line with Afrihost. This was confirmed by Afrihost on 1/09/2020. I now want to cancel my line with Telkom, but they tell me that they can't find the line in their holding pool!
Can anyone tell me how long it takes for Afrihost to transfer the line to the Telkom holding pool?

They won't process a line cancellation until the line is back in the holding pool. and that could take anything up to 1 month or more.
Push Afrihost for proof on paper, which you then can use to try and get Telkom to check their databases and maybe get it moved along.
But, have patience.

Thanks for your reply. You have confirmed what I thought!
I have requested Afrihost to confirm in writing that the line has been transferred to the holding pool. I will have to see if there is a response from them!
 
This threat and question had been bugging a great many persons including myself.
For years I said fear not, the rest of the world has exactly the same challenge.

The difference this past +- 4 months, many of us, myself included can see the affected exchange on this list where xDSL will be terminated.

Latest update as of today 1630.

1. How to get a written assurance from Telkom Telkom will not disconnect my xDSL service?
It is impossible to get this in writing according to Telkom business support { 10213 Opt2 }.
Seems these semi state owned businessesin ZA live on a different planet.
=> I emailed Telkom this very question in 2020 July, it first failed as email bounced saying the Telkom box was full, later Telkom replied telling me they will get back.
Hmm, it is 2 months later, still no answer.

Telkom business support { 10213 Opt2 } assured me the existing copper lines with xDSL on it will not be disconnected.
Telkom business support made a note on my account that I want fibre asap.

## The problem with the above information is.
I am told fibre is near +- 2 km away but not yet available.
I know for a fact an existing fibre line is live and working at the very premise for some other company.
This since I spend a huge amount of effort to have a business presence bordering the Telkom Exchange {My location is < 10 meters from the Telkom exchange, +- 40 meters to the middle of the Telkom exchange site}.
