ADSL and Win7 64 install cd problem from Telkom

Hi All

I need to install my Netgear router manualy.
My install cd does not support win7 64.

I have done previous install to Vodafone B970 router.
Ethernet connection worked out of the box.

What do I need to do.

Could you perhaps give your router's model?

Btw: why do you need to install anything? A router is just supposed to be connected via Ethernet cable and work instantly without having to install anything!

Pada, I think he means setting up the account details on the router, not so much installing support for the router on his PC. But yes, as mentioned, what's the model number?

Every Netgear router I have used, and I have used 6 or 7 different models, could be set up using a web interface.

They are pretty user friendly, few problems. The address is usually 192.168.0.1. The account details are typically on the Basic Settings page.

You don't need a software CD.

Just make sure that it is set to PPPoE, and enter the Login and Password (from the ISP)

Under ADSL settings, just check that it is on LLC, VPI=8 and VCI=35.

You need to enter User=admin and PW=password (defaults) to get into the router.

if you sourced the netgear router from telkom then the default address will probably be http://10.0.0.2

I have not received yet my user name and password.

HowTo: the router's user name and password is not in any way linked to your Telkom user name and password!

Of course you'll need your Telkom user name and password too

Hi All,

First of all why does Telkom not reveal the complet setup procedure.
Hope this will help. Tnx for all that replied.

Step 1) Get Login and Password.
Phone: 0800 500 200 wait for a while?
Telkom will then supply Username and Password.

Step 2) Go to Setup -->"Basic Settings".
Multiplexing Method: LLC-Based
VPI=8
VCI-35
Fill in User Name and Password.
Rest off settings stays default.
Then "Apply"

Step 3:
Phone 10215 option2 later.
This person will ask you to "ADSL verification" setting via "www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl/"
Then you have to wait 30min for activation.
