please let me know where on nic diedericks you stay, closer to hendrik potgieter or closer to christiaan de wet and how did you get the ceo's number?

Hi there

There's a new road just off Nic Diedericks called Beretta Road (opposite Emily Hobhouse road), so I live in one of the complexes off Beretta Road.
They are installing Wimax on Monday because of the same problem you have, in that ADSL will not be available in our area - they made it sound like ADSL will NEVER be available to us in the forseeable future.

Telkom says that I do have Wimax coverage. They are using Grintek to do the installation. I will report back on Monday to share how the installation went and how it compares to ADSL. I suspect that it won't be better than ADSL but it's better than having no connection at all.

If you need those telephone numbers and contact names please PM me. PS I want to clear that I didn't speak to the CEO, but to those who work in his office. I must admit they were really helpful, unlike those in the call centres.

I have an update. I managed to get hold of the CEO's office yesterday where I told them my story. They took down my details and promised to get it sorted out. So this morning a technician phoned me with an installation date at 10am on this Monday 15/10. I can't believe it!

Really glad to hear your good news :)

Hi

I applied for an ADSL line in March this year. I cannot tell you how many calls I've made to Telkom since then but you can imagine that it's a lot. With promise after promise they finally admitted to me on Friday that "it's not going to happen". They have since offered me Wimax. But nobody has bothered to place the order for me and neither can I get an order placed myself.

I have no idea what to do now. I have tried to contact all sorts of people within the Telkom organisation but nothing has helped.

Is there anything you can suggest I can do? Please help.

Ja... I waited around five months in 2005... same story... millions of phone calls and it's nobody's problem... and they screwed up my ISDN line and billing in the process... ended up paying for both services for several months although neither one worked. It's a freaking circus! :)

bummer man... I hope you get some joy soon!

Hi

I have an update. So Grintek came yesterday and did the installation. They tested it and all was ok. Technician then left.

I then proceeded to set up my PPPOE connection with the relevant ISP username and password. Could not connect. Cannot obtain IP address.

It was then established via hundreds of phone calls that there is a problem with the Honeydew Base Station.

I've decided to give up on Telkom. I have also decided to sell my townhouse and move into an established area where I won't have a problem getting connectivity.

Cheers

okay so maybe I was a bit harsh in my intention to sell house, but that's how desperate I was to have some form of connectivity. Anyhow, I must commend the few individuals from Telkom and their contractors who worked countless hours this week to fix the problems at the base station this week. My Wimax connection is now live. It's great. It's just a pity that you need to go up to the highest people in Telkom to get a problem fixed.
