Hi

I applied for an ADSL line in March this year. I cannot tell you how many calls I've made to Telkom since then but you can imagine that it's a lot. With promise after promise they finally admitted to me on Friday that "it's not going to happen". They have since offered me Wimax. But nobody has bothered to place the order for me and neither can I get an order placed myself.

I have no idea what to do now. I have tried to contact all sorts of people within the Telkom organisation but nothing has helped.

Is there anything you can suggest I can do? Please help.

Bummer - what area are you in?

BTW - I know its no consolation but wouldn't Wimax actually work out to be less expensive than ADSL?

In Honeydew Manor, just off Nic Diederics road in Honeydew.

If I could get Telkom to install the Wimax - well that's another story.

What you can do is lay a formal complaint with ICASA, based on Telkom violating the ADSL regulations with regard to the maximum installation time/wait. This will at least force Telkom to pay some attention to your order as they will be required by ICASA to respond to you.

How do you log a complaint with ICASA?

I've been waiting from my ADSL since January this year  Telkom always comes with another BS story why they cant install it.

When I first saw this thread I had so wanted to say that Telkom may be listed on the NYSE but you really shouldn't expect them to provide you DSL in New York. But bwana and Newyork had already replied by the time I saw it.

I'm in the same boat, if I was going to go for a wireless option, then I'd rather go for something that telkom can't get their grubby claws around, like 3G.

But, for the sake of thoroughness, does anyone know what kind of latency Wimax has?

I managed to test 3G at my home, it was average 180ms. ADSL 384 should be around 90ms (according to my friends that have ADSL).

edit BTW - I tested these using speedtest.net (I don't know if that's the best one)

Newyork, I'm in similar area. I ordered a new line with the explicit provisor that it would support ADSL, thy asured me yes it would. The line was installed with in 7 days!! After trying to find out when ADSL would be activated for 2 months I finally got told that "maybe" htere would be support in January.

I casually told them to come uninstall there line and cable and not to expect a cent from me. Invoiced amount has been credited by them and line removed... Not even an offer of WiMAX.

As far as I am concerned Telkom do not even know what infrastructure they have and are willing to take your money without providing a service they offer...

I'm at 1 month, but via WebAfrica, so they can go scream at Telkom for me. 8 months is hectic though.

I think a sticky with information about who to complain to in different situations and how to go about it is long overdue.

If this was in a sticky somewhere chances are more people would complain and (maybe) it would get sorted out quicker. (If there is such a sticky I missed it, sorry)

I have an update. I managed to get hold of the CEO's office yesterday where I told them my story. They took down my details and promised to get it sorted out. So this morning a technician phoned me with an installation date at 10am on this Monday 15/10. I can't believe it!

Your lucky.

I ordered on 6 March 2006. It's 19 months later and I am still waiting.

Perhaps this one? Need numbers to try and resolve Telkom issues? Try these

I meant more along the lines of complaining to ICASA, the ASA and other relevant authorities. Personally I don't believe complaining to Telkom about install times really helps, nor complaining to them about not adhering to regulations or complaining to them about anything really.

Telkom doesn't give a crap, infact I'm sure they care less than ever before since they are considering selling out. I'm not willing to wait on the phone for ages just to be ignored in the longrun.
