Hi Guys anyone with some info on this. On saturday i got a phone call from telkom offering me their fantastic cutting edge technology ADSL, which kind of irritated me as i have recently applied for ADSL (Yes i know despite its flaws) but was told that although the exchange is adsl enabled i am too far. Well this Telkom chappie tells me that no problem by the end of Nov upgrades on the network will be complete and ??everywhere will be able to get ADSL. I know that they are rolling out some mini DSLAMS but does anyone know quite the extent of this??

was this for a specific area? i stay in kommetjie outside cape town and was recently told by customer services that adsl was a no go for the area......

there are no experts - we are all flying by the seats of our pants

Hi,
i'd like to know what area as well. I'm in Hurlingham and was told i'm too far away.
Would be nice to know that they are upgrading, just incase iBurst isn't all it's being made out to be.
Also, what number did you phone for the info?
thanks.

Hi Guys. Yes it was Telkom phoning me to offer their "Great Service". Specifically i was asking about Westville North in KZN, but the bloke indicated that ???everywhere??? will be able to get ADSL. I have to say i think i knew more about the technology than he did, as when i asked if that meant they were currently installing mini dslams in my area he mumbled something and said i should apply at the end of Nov. So who knows.

Duh! Thanks. I should have read your post properly. As soon as i read ADSL Everywhere, my mind clouded over.
Good luck with the installation.

That's utter cr@p, G - that area is serviced by the Rosebank exchange plus a number of mini-DSLAMS, so your friend has been fed a load of shyte by Telkrap. Tell him to go higher-up...

Hi,
not sure where Parkhurst is fed from, but i would imagine that Parkmore is fed from the exchange behind the Benmore Gardens shopping centre, which is the same one as mine. Hurlingham is only 2.3 from the exchange (as the drunk crow flies), so i am sure Parkmore is well within distance. DId they give any explanation as to why there was no ADSL?

Err sorry, I was indeed referring to Parkhurst/Greenside - definitely fed from Rosebank, where IS is - about 2,5km according to the inebriated bovine...

Dont worry, he is a ISP also so he is speaking to all the relevant people, but the initial party line was no ADSL.

now to start digging and talking to the actual right people. other solutions is also being looked at, he might just have the unfortunate situtaion of being 100M outside ADSL range, we never know,
