Hi, yesterday the ADSL went down, we are unable to connect to our ISP(TELKOM). I phoned them and they logged a fault. Today they tell me that the issue is solved, its not. We in to the issue Direct store they give us a new router. And low and behold we have the same issue. Others in our area have the same issue. What now? (From cellphone)

Gosh that must be annoying, I feel for you...After reading these forums for a while it seems the best thing to do is phone Telkom again and report it. Get a reference number and then post it on here. There are guys on here that seem to be able to help with stuff. And then just keep badgering Telkom, and get other people in your area to do it too. Maybe they will eventually decide to come take a look and see what's up...

Bulk fault usually means your line has been targeted by cable thieves. It's "normal" for them to close the fault as "resolved and service restored" without ANY repairs actually done to the physical line (I've had this done to my stolen line for every fault I've opened) - Great Telkom Logic.
If this is what's happened to your line, good luck ... mine's been down since March 2008 to give you an idea.
You do stay in the Cape though, and as far as I know this isnt an issue there as much as it is here in Gauteng... but keep trying, reopen the fault and investigate

No, the DSL is working we can't connect to the ISP. Because of Telkom's incompetance we have a free new router. Now I find out that the problem is at the exchange. They could have told me that yesterday.

Strange that it is an exchange fault.... that normally means a faulty DSLAM module, but they normally swop them out pretty promptly!

It could mean a fault on the optic fibre connecting your exchange to its "parent" exchange. Eish, then I feel for you as it will only be repaired tomorrow!

I'm just so glad that my line is now hosted with my ISP. It makes it so much easier to get these issues sorted out. No more being pointed from one to the other. If something is not working, I just phone my ISP, and it is up to them to sort it out with Telkom.

Hi Xzbit, im also in Diep river and have been without internet for almost the entire weekend.First i called Saol who told me there is nothing wrong on their side. After i hard reset my router and redid all my settings to be sure, i knew it had to be a Telkom stuff up as my dsl was syncing and my router is almost new. After being given the run around about my router being faulty i called them back and a more informed agent told me it was indeed a Telkom fault at our exchange. He informed me that Telkom would fix this today and already correctly predicted that Telkom wouldnt do sh@% on a Sunday.I feel your pain and i will rape my uncapped connection the instant its online. Here's hoping they do fix it tomorrow.-sent frm a cellphone.

I was down for just over a week!! Went down on Saturday 08/05/2010 and the fault was fixed yesterday some time. Don't know what was wrong - just phoned them everyday to ask for feedback. The fault was escalated twice - not too sure if that helped at all. Lost two weekends of downloading.....

I too have been a victim of this bulk line fault. Have been without Internet/adsl /telephone service from Wednesday. There are a lot of businesses in our area that has all been affected. I stay in Clydesdale pretoria. The issue has been reported on Wednesday and telkom said they can't escalate it if less that 72 hours. Yesterday( friday) I have been issued a temporary telkom sim. Thus is for Internet access. But the sim is not yet activated. Seems all like an endless struggle. Anyone been in the same boat recently? Any advice on how to get a sim activated? The lady working there could tell me the amount of data that will be available in the temporary sim. Does any one have an idea or advice about my situation? If a really frustrated university student starting exams on Monday and need Internet in my home..... In my room back ASAP. Thanks for a great community

If it's a bulk fault it's either a cable has been stolen/damaged or an exchange problem and were it the latter it would have been quickly resolved. Now for a cable a contractor must come out to fix the cable which might take a week or two(the joys of outsourcing), it helps if your are has a couple of business and corporate clients as that might influence the turnaround time very positively.

As for the sim card i've given on mine and I've started to think that Telkom deliberately make sure that the sim does not work, only those who are patient enough to follow end up being successful after months and hours on the the Telkom call centre.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. From a legal standpoint must we pay for a service if it can't be delivered? And any advice on getting large amounts of data on prepaid very cheaply?

Greetings
