Did anyone know that in the last month Telkom have decided to change the cap structure from 3gig in either download or upload, to total traffic accross the line. So effectively the cap is not really 3 gig anymore but significantly less. How much more pathetic can telkom actually get !!!!

This has always been the case AFAIK (both UP&down added), the only thing they did change was the wording in the mailshots they send out.

They don't get more pathetic. They were like this all the time.
If they really want however, they can get less pathetic.

But it will take a miracle - like this site for instance.

last month i only got capped when my download hit 6.1 gig and my upload was 4.3. I reconnected when my download was 2.9 and i still wasn't capped. i spoke to a guy who sounded like he knew what he was talking about and he said the there marketing department decided to change it to this structure 2 weeks ago

That matches up with my experience. In July, I got capped when I had 3GB outgoing and 2.5GB incoming traffic. So that was still the "in either direction" rule. Now, I would get capped much sooner.

What pisses me off no end is that a lot of that incoming traffic that contributes to your cap is UNWANTED incoming traffic, such as portscans, SMB attacks, old IP's you inherited from someone else acting as a Kazaa supernode, and god knows what else.

Very lekker that YOU have no choice over how your traffic gets used up eh?

Hi guys

Sorry to burst your bubble but I got capped on 0.8 up and 2.3 down this month. Apparantly the cap is enforced the next time you log on.

This means that if ur sitting on 2.9 gig some day, you can get away with a whole days download without being capped. (+- extra 1 gig) That marketing guy you spoke to was talking s__t, he probably said that to get you off his back - I know the style

Hiya goldie5218

goto http://users.isdsl.net/ and enter your details - you'll then be presented with a breakdown of how much bandwidth you've used over the different days of the month.

Hope this helps

Does this work for any sevice provider?
I am with Axxess and it does not recognise my username & password

thanks

Agreed. It is incredible how Telkom is allowed by government (make no mistake it IS government) to shaft South Africans. Lets hope the DoC colloquiums wasn't in vain...
