ADSL cost after 1 August 2013

So you have to pay R600 just to get connected at 10Mbps, no voice or data with that. Just R600 pure profit you kick towards Telkom each month for doing absolutely ZERO.

Until this fee disappears, 3G connections wins hands down. You only pay for the data you actually use - no connection fees, no line speed fees.

And Telkom wonders why landlines are decreasing. No-one wants to pay a huge chunk and get ZIP.

So who pays to maintain the copper and exchange equipment?

If you had half a brain then you should be punting naked Adsl rather than expecting it all free.

Another question is related to the R12bn asset impairment that Telkom included in their 2013 annual financial statements...

In the article on MyBB the Telkom CEO made mention that prices will drop as the product pricing teams could now factor in lower asset costs.

So was this done?

The overall cost increase does not feel high for some people like me who are currently on their "Simple 3" promotional deal. Ultimately Telkom should actually get a lot more sales on these promotions of theirs, but as I said in the previous thread their price increases comes at a very bad time especially for customers like myself that struggles to make ends meet. :sick:

Ultimately Telkom might just have something better than a price decrease waiting for its subscribers, who knows? :)

If you don't like it, don't buy it.

This is the privilege Telkom gets for being a monopoly.

And those touting that it should cost even less, if that was the case, why on earth are there no other operators creating new network lines for residential areas? Yeah you guessed it, it costs a lot to make a network in south africa.

And before you come here talking about those dumb FTTx networks, and how they are an alternative, guess again, those networks don't allow any other ISP to work off it. So you can't go running off with a new ISP if you start lagging on their networks. They also cost an arm and a leg for installation.

Suck it up, or GTFO :sick: not that we have much choice.

The prices are still too high. Many of my friends miss out on ADSL because they simply can't afford to pay R600 odd a month for ADSL. There will not be high market penetration as long as these prices remain high. The solution is naked ADSL. It will cause a huge uptake on ADSL which transmutes in higher profit margins for Telkom.
 
I haven't seen a single word on the Closer packages. How will they be affected?

That network was paid for with our money (taxpayers) and then handed to Telskum on a silver platter. It's one thing to maintain a network and another thing to build a new network entirely. If the maintenance of the copper network was just a burden on Telkom, why do you think they are fighting LLU so much?
 
Telkom just make themselves more and more un-competitive against the cellular providers. For R300 you can get Netcomm MyZone Wi-Fi Router on SmartData 2GB + GigaNite 10.

They should really be reducing their prices to stay competitive - they now need to focus on increasing sales rather then revenue.

And how are the cellular networks funding their networks? Cost money, but they also making money, and they also reducing prices.
