hey guys,
my friends adsl disconnects when ever someone phones on the line.
is it because he inst using a micro filter on the telephone port or something else?

There needs to be a micro filter on the line the phone is connected to. Same goes for fax lines. No point in troubleshooting the problem if the filters are not even connected.

If he installs the micro filter and it still disconnects when someone calls, then you have to look at other possible interference. For example, does he connect wirelessly to a router perhaps? Most wireless routers operate in the 2.4GHz range. But unfortunately most cordless phones and microwave ovens do as well.

So if he uses a 2.4GHz cordless phone and he's sitting close to the 2.4GHz wireless router, it could affect the connection with the router (while he may think it's the adsl line that disconnects).

we have tried everything short of actually stop using the phone and i still get the same problem...

I can use the cordless phone or the normal phone and they both do the same thing... disconnect my internet

thanks allot, i think he forgot to buy filters. (that was my first guess as well). just wanted to confirm with the "guru's"!
