Hi guys.

I've got an issue with my adsl. I have a billion router, 4mbps line and mweb uncapped.

Every now and then the internet disconnects. The red light on the router comes on but on the router's site is shows adsl line is up and attempting to connect.

I tried different service providers and telkom says the line is working fine.

Could the router be causing this?

Could be one of the following:

-Attenuation on the line is too high allow auth with the RAS(would need to log a fault)
-A port error is currently present on the DSLAM unit you are connected to (get telkom to perform a port re-create)
-Telkom is having backhaul problems with the exchange.
[ the DSL light just indicates sync with the local DSLAM unit, it does not indicate whether your local exchange is having backhaul issues or not]

Get telkom to drop your port speed to 3meg and see if that helps.

I had this issue. Telkom apparently upgraded the line to the local exchange and the next thing I couldn't stay connected for longer than 2 minutes. A Telkom technician came in and reduced my port speed from 4mbps to 1mbps. That sorted out the problem but now everything has been super slow for the past year. The technician said I should wait three months and ask that they transfer my line to the mini DSLAM box down the road. When I did this they said there were no spare lines available and to just wait and it will happen automatically. Well it hasn't. Can't say I'm too happy paying for a premium connection and having nothing more than a very mediocre connection.

phone 0800 375375 and ask for your sync profile to be raised to 3 megabit. if problem persists phone again and ask for 2meg. if still no joy consider downgrading, no sense in paying extra if you can't use it
