My ADSL have now been down for 79 hours and counting. I finally got some inside info where it was stated that as of last night there was 5000 outstanding faults logged, some people have been without ADSL for up to 16 days and that Telkom does not have enough resources to solve the problem. There are only 4 people manning the ADSL call center for the whole country. I logged a call on Friday 11h40, after waiting for 30 mins to report the fault, have sent an e-mail to Telkom's CEO, have called Telkom's Customer Care division. Guess what !!!! Still no ADSL...........

Anybody know what else we can do ??????

Well my Adsl hasn't been working for about 10 Days, but i think its cause i got hard capped at like 3.1Gigs. But ill phone them tomorrow and see what they say.

Hi guys

Can you please mail or MP me the details...

Regards,

RPM

Dag 6 sonder ADSL

I'm going into day 6 with ADSL down. Conflicting reports as to what's wrong form the "service" line, no help at the "customer" "service centre" either. Does anybody at Telkom care? My work is going to the dogs, as is my temper etc. etc. Telkom and this government think that the Internet is too good for us.

My adsl dies daily

My adsl ppp connection dies daily, it starts working again after about 3 Hours. I'm not capped yet and this has been happening since last year. I told the adsl guys I'm canceling my service if my problem doesn't get fixed. The telkom techie that came out for the problem the last time I reported said he'll swop my line at the exchange with someone else if the problem surfaces again. If I see him this coming week, I'm gonna tell the dude I want a new adsl line at the exchange. My browsing sucks on 512 business adsl. Downloads aren't that bad, although I'm incapable of downloading any torrents, I've got an openweb free proxy account and although my line is shaped I averaged around 10-25KB download speed at the beginning of last year. I'm getting totally pissed off with telkom and I don't think any amount of complaints will fix my problem.

Someone magically created a new adsl account on my telephone account and used my initials and surname as an email adress. I am the only one dealing with the adsl stuff and I definitely did not create it, I'm not sure whether I was billed for the damn thing, but I'm going to get all the account information and find out. The new account was created last year october and that was when I decided to boycot telkom for 3 months, I did not have adsl and I did not have a working landline. Screw telscum, may all there money, ideas and business burn in hell

And on the sixth day...

A competent and friendly Telkom technician pitched up. It turns out the problem could probably have been solved by an ordinary Telkom techie (as my neighbours' were, on day 3 and 4 respectively) and my DSL is - thank gods! - motoring again. However I shall never forget the horrendous Telkom "customer" "service" and am going to try to get a refund for the days or outage.

RPM.. posted what happened to me here I'm waiting back for my call promised to me to let me know whats going on. I was told that the average wait time is 24-48 hours for a check, and about 1000 calls reported at the time I had phone and an unknown amount of people waiting. There were 3 people working in the ADSL call center (when I asked why telkom was still retrenching then, I got told he didn't want to speak about what his managers did and it had nothing to do with my line not working yet it seemed to be the reason for the back log)

I'll let you know more as it happens.. unless they read this and suddenly all my logged calls disappear :D

My ADSL and phone line was crossed with another line for 7 days, result of an "unknown element" as the tech jokingly described the tech that caused the fault to occur. In any case, Remember to phone customer care and request a refund for both the ADSL service and line rental after the line is back again, apparantly that doesn't happen automatically.

Just found out after getting my account, that is exactly what happened to me, and somebody made R300's worth of international calls on my line during that time.

You are not alone....

Lets see...never mind the fact that I have 'had' ADSL since November, but only really got it working in January, now its totally dead - logged a call on the 24th February and surprisingly the heldesk answered very quickly. My surprise was short lived - surprise surprise - we cant expect decent service from Telkom now can we?

(Very busy) Techie EVENTUALLY pitches up on Monday 6th March - nice guy - very helpfull. We check it out and find the fault, but its at the pole in someones yard...they are not home. "Ill be back later" - yea right Im still waiting.

OK lets call them and see if the fault has been updated:

Phone is dead so need to use cell... 10min - no answer
Try later - 15 min - no answer... screw this I am PAYING for this call!
Phone from work - wait 15 minutes...get some guy going to redispach the call - why the hell redispatch...call the guy dammit...Oh wait..they dont have the techs number...

Nothing heard...start feeling like reversing a bakkie over a local DP to get some Telkom visibility:
Wife calls from work - 22 minutes in queue - useless agent who wants to redispatch again...

I consider myself quite a patient person, who understands lack of staff etc etc being in a similar job myself - but ffs, one of my targets is to call a customer back withing 48 hours to give updates. Tomorrow Ill start climing the escallation ladder - contacts from fellow users welcome.

Thanks to Telscum - I have had to drive in to work 35km each day each way during this time when I can normally work from home and I am paying for a service I dont have!

A tip for all users - when a tech arrives at your house - MAKE SURE HE DOESNT LEAVE WITHOUT GETTING HIS CONTACT DETAILS!! Its the only chance you have of getting some help.

heh, i can vouch for him being pretty patient, but yeh.. Telskum service SUCKS. I applied for Adsl in November, only to be told there is no infrastructure at present, and i would have adsl end of feb / early march. To this day there is still no sign of a cable 3km's from my house, so yes... telkom service just sucks... i'm sticking with my iburst for now, but anyway, its pretty stable with the external arial :)

and HEY.. why is ur target 48hrs when mine is 1hr? pffffft!!! :)

Update

After numerous more calls to them and still no joy, I eventually got in my car and drove around the neighborhood looking for a P van. There I happen to find the tech who originally installed my ADSL. He is the only tech available for the area at the moment, but had no record of my call (This despite the fact that I was assured each time my call was dispached.) He assured me he would call me back after he had finished his daily work.

At 6PM, he called me to apologise profusely for not being able to make it (funny that - 15 days and not a single call from Telscum, but the tech can manage to do it the same day) - he had just finished his last scheduled job. I told him no problem as my call was not actually on his task list. He promised to be here on Sunday morning.

He came today, with a friend and sorted me out in half an hour. Some other idiot tech had left the covers open on a neighbour's pole and rain water had messed up all the joints.

I really feel sorry for some of the good techs - they actually directly take the flak for something not under their direct control - sad part is they will remain just that and never progress higher up to replace the useless ****s sitting higher up in their cosy offices talking **** next to the water cooler.

after spending Saturday with no http today wasn't any better - the link light has been flashing almost all day, no amount of reboot (push the button at the back and start up again, blah blah) has resulted in anything positive

still, i read through this forum and i think i'm one of the lucky ones

is there any light at the end of this tunnel?

i'm with telkominternet, have been for 4 years now and i'm still trying to figure out if there's an alternative - reading this information on here confuses the heck out of me

as an afterthought... remember the joke about transnet and buk-net? maybe telkom should be called kom-net ??

When you find a techie like that, take his cell number. Don't call the call centre next time - go direct.
