Signed up for SAOL last week, support just got back to me with this :(

"Kindly note that your order is linked to a dslam project.
Unfortunately Telkom has only advised us today that there is no ports available in your area. Once there is a free port, telkom will allocate the port."

We will advise you as soon as Telkom informs us that the ADSL Line is installed.

Is there anything I can do to speed this up my side, is telkom ever going to do something?
what's the procedure here?

This happens a lot and I'm very sorry for you fella. There really isn't anything you can do but wait.

It seem that Telkom is more interested in spending your TAX money on competing in other markets rather than supplying people access to the network. You'd think that it would be the first thing they do as that is technically what they are being paid for.

Regulation, regulation, regulation... Telkom seems to have very little to make them do the things that the government TAXes you and pays them for... it's a real shame. However, one thing you could do is stop using any of their ISP subsidiaries as it's just another distraction for them to not install another DSLAM or line to every home in South Africa.

P.
P.S. This is my personal opinion and not that of Imagine IPS... but it just needs to be said.
There are too many hidden facts and un-truths in this industry and they need to be stamped out.

All you can do is ... like with anything with telkom ... hurry up and wait!

In the same boat!

According to some Telkom employees, they aren't upgrading anything unless it is related to SWC 2010!

It's one of the popular suburbs in East London - I'm not off the beaten track!

Do they have to upgrade at the exchange or wait for someone to cut adsl subs. and then a port becomes available?

The are is Abbotsford (Dorchester Heights) alongside the N2

Anti-competitive

Apart from poor service, there have also been accusations that Telkom is denying ISPs orders – citing issues like ‘Fibre Exchange’ – but when the same client phones Telkom Internet an order is approved.

When ISPs were contacted regarding this issue it seemed to be a common occurrence.

Fialkov explains the situation: “Instead of getting an order number you can get ‘DSLAM project’ or ‘no ports available’, which can mean absolutely anything. It may mean DSLAM project, in which case installation can take months and there is no possible way to get a completion date, it may mean that self install is not available or in most cases it means that Telkom have reserved this port for Telkom Internet.”

“As policy whenever we get a ‘DSLAM project’ or ‘no ports available’ we order on behalf of the client via the retail helpdesk and more than 50% of the time we get an order number and the line installed within 7 days. Nobody can explain how come wholesale told us it was a ‘DSLAM project’ yet the retail helpdesk manages to install the very same order for the very same customer within 7 days,” Fialkov said.

Another ISP owner, which would like to remain anonymous, says that they are experiencing ‘this behaviour’ when customers deal with Telkom at their outlets.

Yes. Try applying directly at telkom. Once its activated you may migrate the line to saol.com without any downtime or port shuffling. You might be charged a pro rata fee from telkom for that small time that the adsl was on your account.

That's what SAOL said, just received the email now - back to dealing with Telkom!

Getting more gatvol of this monkey run country by the day!

Surely if the DSLAm or whatever has reached full capacity that means it should be upgraded?

TIA I suppose :(

Filled in the "adsl" form this morning at the local telkom store - guess I will just have to bug the krap out of them for next few weeks, months, years until something get's done - wonder if I can crash their help-desk with enough calls - if only :)

Post your order (ref) number here and see if someone helps!
