I'm sure this has been asked and answered before (can't find it for the life of me), but is there an up-to-date website that lists the speed of the DSLAMs?

Reason I ask is that the ADSL checker says my area is 20Mb capable, I'm listed as being on 10Mb, but my line only syncs at 6Mb.

After phoning Telkom the techy said that my DSLAM is only 6Mb capable, so I'd like to downgrade to 4Mb and keep an eye on when the DSLAM gets upgrade (without having to phone Telkom every week or so).

There is no reliable way to find out other than phoning them and trying to upgrade.

You may be limited to 6Mbps due to copper length. What do your ADSL line stats look like?

It is a bit of a hit and miss issue. Even with us who have access to Telkom wholesale.

My line at home can upgrade to 20mb, but then my line starts flapping. It flaps over anything that is 8mb. I used to have perfect 10mb then one day the line started flapping. Head office claims there is metal on the line, the local guys are clueless and tell me I cant get speeds of 10mb. Even though I had a perfect service for almost 2 years at 10mb. When I upgrade my line to 20mb my line flaps like a mofo and is not worth the lack of stability.

Its ****ing sucks to be in a 20mb area, but not able to stay synced at those speeds.

Anyways, my work ADSL has a max speed of 4mb, today I saw that I could upgrade to 20MB, I tried to upgrade but then it just synced at 4mb again. So Im not sure how accurate the systems are.

To me, the only way to really test, is to try do an upgrade.

According the checker, 20Mbps is available in my area and my current service speed si 10Mbps. My router syncs at 8.5Mbps though.

My line was syncing at 6mb. I asked for an upgrade anyway and now i'm syncing at 15mb. Not sure why.....

These are the stats:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6144 kbps 635 kbps
Line Attenuation 25.5 db 13.2 db
Noise Margin 20.3 db 17.6 db

You can get 10 megs so must be an exchange limit or something so try phoning Telkom and ask them to up your sync speed.
