Hello,

Does anyone suspect or know of incidents where individuals tamper with the exchange?

I ask because I have been struggling with slow speed on my 4mbps line, currently at 0,2mbps. Ive logged many faults, what happens is that once the technician fixes the problem at the exchange I get really good speeds, but this only lasts between half a day to one day, then its back to the crappy speed or no connection at all.

How does this happen, I suspect someone goes to the exchange and does something that affects my line, not intentionally I would imagine.

Can anyone relate to this?

Oh yes, I'm new here, always been a big MYBB fan though.:)

Is it not just congestion on your exchange?

I agree it could be congestion, but that doesnt explain why after a technician sorts it out it works fine for a few hours and then drops again and stays like that until the technician does his thing again a week later after logging a fault.

What "they" do is move your line over to a known working port and then wait until the person who was on that port complains, then they shift everything around again :D rinse and repeat...

Sounds about right;)
What bugs me is that it takes a week after I log a fault for the technician to come out, but the 'other person' gets it done in a few hours...how does that work?

Probably BusinessADSL line vs HomeADSL line...

Just phone them and ask them to do a port reset if it gets so bad.
It shoud help quite a bit.

I do that all the time, does not help. It only helps when the technician does his thing at the exchange.

You could get Telkom Mobile's 10+10 gb deal which works well but 10gb for me is not enough.

I would need around 50GB per month, I tired the Cell C Giga packages, hit and miss affair, when it works it works well though, mostly does not work though, lots of buffering issues.

I had a great exerience on Telkom mobile but the data allocation was too low.

I've had incidents where I've reported a problem - likely to do with exchange - then Telkom delays. I suddenly find my port was reset a few times and everything is working well again. Then Telkom rings and says there was no problem and just closed the fault.

There are also allegations (unproven) that Telkom puts their rivals, like Mweb, on congested exchanges. Makes sense of course.

That's an interesting comment, I am ready to cancel my ADSL, line is with Afrihost. I think I will test this when I cancel and move my line back to Telkom, must Telkom be the ISP as well?
