ADSL for a Dummie

Hi guys

I'm basically looking for an affordable ISP that can offer me a affordable monthly inclusive uncapped package (4mbps) inclusive of all costs. I basically want to download/stream movies & series as well as connect to XBOX Live.

I've contacted a few who seem to build up that price that exceeds R600pm. Telkom currently has a special for R599 4mbps and i'm wondering if thats my best bet.

Also, I was wondering is uncapped is the way to go, or is there a capped package that can suit my needs.

I think throttling/latency on uncapped could be an issue, so consider capped first.

I have an Axxess backup account (20GB for R29pm), and with 3 month rollover, I've now accumulated close to 100GB to use, which is a plus. They also have 12am - 6am free use, so consider opting for a capped 120GB account @ R123 (data only) or with 4Mbps ADSL line @ R369. (Your Telkom line rental should account for the extra, but should still be less than R600pm) https://www.axxess.co.za/dsl/capped
Also, you can use EFT as an option to pay them - which I prefer - if you choose your options properly when you sign up (Afrihost, which own Axxess, only allow for credit card or debit order payments).

Otherwise, another option is https://www.isat.co.za/products/adsl-line-rental.aspx and getting 120GB data from Axxess, if that's even enough for what you want ?

That Telkom price for R599 still excludes analog line rental I believe.


A capped package with the free night time data from Crystal Web or Afrihost might be a better option depending on your usage patterns.
