Hi Everyone,

This is my first post. So please be patient.
I would like to get Home Adsl 384k, mainly for Online Gaming for Guild Wars.
Would i be able to play internationally? Or would only local servers be availible due to the excessive ms?

Thanks

Yes you should be able to....go down the 'Gaming' page a bit and you'll see a topic called 'Anyone getting Guild Wars?'

Pings to the states average from 450 upwards.. dunno what the pings need to be for Guild Wars, but if you play something like Counterstrike it would be like jumping in and out of a teleporter

Play WoW on 384 also average around the 450 mark. Fine for MMORPG. Also play RTS games on it and that seem to work fine with the occasional hicup.

I been playing Guild Wars for a few days now using the standard Telkom ADSL 512, runs great. I havnt tried it during working hours, but I dont play during working hours.

neeeeeeeeever play guild wars on an IS based account, it lags like hell

no local servers - prepaid unshaped will be best option.

Play local for everything!! and for Guild Wars play on EU it gets 300-400ping on 384k :D

SGS, IS & Gamezone has a HUUGE selection of online game server's avalible from CSS to F.E.A.R - BF2 - TF2 - Trackmania and manny more!! just have a look!

BTW what games will you be playing besides GW? as some games can chew through a cap in a couple of hours!!

Playing GW on SAIX-384 shaped, using EU servers. No complaints, except for infrequent hickups (occasional lag over 1000ms, 1 or 2 disconnects per month). I think these would be similar even on unshaped. Loving the experience immensely.

Except for the end of the month generally my 384k line is fantastic (SAIX unshaped, and even shaped sometimes) for both WoW and Halo 3...

I recommend u play world of warcraft and not guild wars :P

Sheesh you okes are worried guild wars wont run on ADSL :p I used to play it on GPRS!! back in the day when I got GPRS for free somehow from Vodacom through a bug of sorts  I was patient enough for the updates knowing I was not being charged a cent :p

It is/was even playable on 56k dial-up. The net code for that type of game is totally different to a First Person Shooter or strategy game.

Cs 1.6 with 3mb ADSL

Hi im about to get 3mb ADSL broadband with 384kb/s download speed and i was wondering what my ping would look like playing cs 1.6, because i will get kicked from my favorite server once it goes higher than 120, the server is hosted in Germany and i'm in Ireland, so I would like to find out before i sign the contract.

plz help!

Guardian,

Best you ask some local (Irish or German) guy's that, we have a special needs telecoms provider here in SA called Telkom/Telscum/nokum ... whatever that are useless

No way will you get 120ms to Europe from South Africa. 250ms at a minimum, on a good day. All the way across Africa, using Telkom as your carrier.

You'll have it a lot better. Best you ask some guys in EU.
