Help something must be wrong! I losing cap to fast! its only been 3 days since I got ADSL and now I have used like 276mb!
 
Stop browsing and downloading. :P Its not hard to go through just under 100MB a day.
 
Stop calling 911 for no reason, its no emergency, you will be arrested!
Just calm down on the pr0n sites :D
 
Im on facemook most of the time... and just jerkin around some sites but mainly facebook! how much does videos take off? and just regular viewing and downloads?
 
I think a lot of new adsl users fail to see how much cap just ordinary web browsing uses. But besides that, a few youtube videos and playing a game online will easily eat your cap. I check my cap usage at least 2 times a day just to make sure I'm not getting too wild.

Oh, Facebook. Well there's your problem. Facebook's photo albums especially use a lot of cap.

A 3 minute video from youtube at normal quality is 7.5 MB.

It could be automatic updates if you are using Windows XP. These can take a couple of hundred megs. Also make sure your router is not wireless and you have not made it secure as someone could have found it and be using it, but in this case you would probably find yourself capped so check option one.
 
I live in empangeni nobody has the know how or the elbo greas to boef my cap... why wont it last!?!? :(

Ok you are rather difficult to help as you do not really listen....

Are you using XP?
Is your router wireless?
Are you uploading/viewing videos and pictures on Facebook?
 
yes I am viewing pictures... and I watched a couple of vids on myspace and funnyordie... nd facebook... I got XP and there is no router... whats a router that little black block that says, surge protection?

90 megabytes per day for viewing videos, browsing facebook, viewing pictures, etc is pretty normal.

No reason to panic - if you want to be absolutely sure, why not spend a day simply doing nothing and then checking the usage?
 
90mb a day normal? its 2 gig cap it must last a month not 20 days... my mom bared my cellphones contract to 20 bucks ova the limit... that doesnt even last 8 days!
 
Just because you need it to last a month doesn't mean it will. You need to reduce your usage if you want 2GB to last a month.
 
so what your saying is I need to stop being on the internet? ok if I press that switch behing my ADSL modem thing thats says power Will it brek or should I turn it off another way
 
Dude, just install a program like NetMeter and next time you're having a party on Facebook, or some video site just watch your bandwidth usage closely. If I were you, I wouldn't watch videos. They generally waste time and of course use a lot of cap. Images from, for example, facebook can also eat cap.

Also, its important to turn off updates on the programs in which you don't need updates ie. Adobe products.

This is funny... ;) I do about 120 megs a day, play the odd game aswell, so its pretty normail... Just get prepaid if you get capped... R70 a gig at WebAfrica
 
Facebook + Watching videos kills SA caps very fast.

Install netmeter and then watch it while you are not surfing/downloading. If it still moves then there might be something downloading in the background...if not then your browsing/downloading is the problem.
