Hello all , so I'm on a telkom 4mb uncapped adsl line and it's been real awful! Throttling every month without fail , what's sad about this whole event is that the duration of throttling starts earlier and earlier each month.

The dropped speed usually starts around:
28th-29th each month
Few months later -26th-
Now it starts today , 22th!

What's weird is that the days i start to get throttled , it happens to my buddy , he's on a 2mb line ( barely uses his internet )

Speeds are at 40kb/s max! , all i did was download 2 movies this month ( 500mb and 600mb )
30mb torrent
One ps4 game thats under 2Gigs
Socal media
All i do is stream videos on youtube , 360p cause it works the fastest and anime at the same quality
Well and some adult content when life gets lonely Lol , I can't see my usage since my account is bugged.

What do i do ? It's unbearable! I wanted to purchase a few ps4 games that's on sale on psn but I'm afraid to download stuff these days.
I was afraid the entire month to download anything large so i could avoid being throttled but it still happened!

Any help please , even any other ISP willing to buy me over I'm listening. ..

If you know much data you use on average it is better to buy a capped account. There are no limitations on them. :)

Are you sure it's throttling and not exchange congestion?
 
What you should do is start at the beginning and check if your line is working properly first.

Go to this very useful tool developed by a member of this forum. It will help you determine where if any, problems exist.

After that you should start looking for any processes that are running that you are not aware of, malware etc, that might be gobbling up your capacity allowance without you knowing about it.
 
Move your DSL and Data to Axxess Uncapped premium 4mb Combo for R499. I have been on it since the 5 of March and have not had any issues. Can stream youtube videos in HD I have also used about 70 GB so far and still getting my full line speed. You will only get throttled if you download torrents.

Sorry for the delay i had to call telkom to get my username and password again XD
It seems that my throttling begins at 240Gbs , from looking at my history thats number i usual hit on the 26-28th of the month , I'm at 200Gb and it's being throttled? It seems the usage has lowered in data :/
What's strange is that i was on a 2mb line and from looking at the history , throttling also took place at 240Gb
 
Well 240gigs is a lot yoh you will be throttled very badly
 
I suggest Afrihost, I usually use 2tb to 2.5tb a month on 20mbps line. Never had throttling.
 
Wow you watch alot! Congratulations!!!!!

You need to upgrade to something where you get at least 300gigs.

Afrihost offers 150gigs for R299 and then double your data for R99 to get 300gigs. This will include uncapped from 12pm-6am where you can download as much as you want.

This will probably be the cheapest way to get what you need to keep you happy

I average about 270GB per month on a TI 4Mbps uncapped account.

Most of my downloads are scheduled in the midnight to 7am slot. My kids both have Steam accounts and my son games online too much (for my liking). The wife enjoys her Youtube videos and I stream some sport over weekends.

I'm yet to go past the halfway mark on the usage graph.
 
Sounds like all your usage is during normal hours, if you could schedule some of it for the 00:00 - 07:00 period you would be able to get more mileage out of your uncapped account.

Maybe take a look at capped accounts - axxess have some good deals atm which don't cost an arm and a leg.
 
Throttling can take up to 10 days before it resumes to normal speeds, maybe ask Telkom about their usage policy
