What can you do if you previously had ISDN and Telkom tells you that they cant install your adsl line as the line is bad, dont you need a clear line to instlall Isdn in the first place? Is the techie high or just lazy?

It uses the same copper. If the ISDN line had full speed then it should be Ok. But I cannot see the problem, If the line is bad Telkom just have to fix the line, or swop the core of the cable that is why you pay line rental. That simple in my view.
Have any neighbours or anybody from that area have ADSL? .

No none of the neighbours have Adsl in that area, its weird, i just think Telkom in that area is extremely lazy .ie Natal, here in Gauteng they seem more efficient

i have heard of many people converting from ISDN to ADSL. best you give this forum a search. ;)

My experience... I had ISDN and when contacting for ADSL I was told that they first have to convert me back to analogue and then only can ADSL be implemented - the other option was install a new analogue service on the line and cancel the ISDN service (meaning the number will change)..They said this would be quicker. This was done after 3 months due to the DSLAM shortage at my exchange.... Must say the new number is a blessing as I have not had anyone phoning to sell insurance, property, house renovations, etc etc.
