mybroadband discussing that ICASA wanting to discuss the promised ADSL IPConnect price cut intervention they want eventually to discuss with Telkom in future which will only be able to happen in open discussions which have to be discussed and announced first in order for preliminary discussions to pave a way for initial discussion documents which in turn can lead to discussion to starts.

Which should result in a scoping document of what needs to be discussed

Let us not jump for joy over this.

Telkom WILL NOT decrease the pricing any time soon, even after that date. they are a monopoly for a reason.

If they do, they will not exceed a 25% cut.

ICASA......Lost faith in that thing a long time ago.

Ipc is currently four times the price of international fiber bandwidth. Even if Ipc costs drop by 50% they would be too high.

Nevertheless, a 50% price drop would be most welcome. Baby steps.

Don't get me wrong, any reduction is good, but I'd say cost of bandwidth is low enough. They should focus on reducing line rental. I mean you get uncap for R99, but have to pay Telkom R300 for 384kb/s of NOTHING. R300 for no data throughput and R99 for uncap just don't sound logical to me.

Still using above numbers, a 50% reduction will only result in an effective reduction of 12.5% to the overall cost to the consumer.

I say, ICASA, force Telkom to provide naked ADSL and it will go a long way to bring broadband to the masses. Also allow for ADSL on a prepaid line.

As I see it, the high IPC costs are the only thing that are keeping 10Mb/s uncapped costs at such a high price. I am not so worried about not being able to get 10Mb/s because I would not be able to afford the uncapped package to go with it. Never mind 20 and 40 Mb/s.
