sup dudes,

I need some advise on what an ADSL line attenuation and noise margin should be.

My ADSL line stats is as follow:

Line Attenuation:
Down - 57.0 db
Up - 31.0 db

Noise Margin:
Down - 13.5 db
Up - 10 db

thanks

With a downstream line attenuation of 55dB or higher, your odds of getting ADSL speeds faster than 512kbps is almost impossible.

I think you should be able to phone Telkom and ask them what your ADSL line's distance is from your home to the DSLAM. That way you should be able to determine whether the downstream line attenuation is correct. Multiplying the distance (in km) by about 15dB/km should give you a rough estimation of what the downstream line attenuation should be.

Shoot me your phone number I'll reply with a screenshot of the line stats from the DSLAM side for you. It has nice descriptions on the right which explain each value.
