Hello, I've had ADSL since about half way through august and noticing a steady decrease in performance as time goes on.

My line attenuation is now 61 - which is apparently very bad. I'm unsure what it was before the recent rain we've had.

Now my router was unplugged during the storm but when I plugged it back in there was a spark and I think it might be kinda damaged.

Now can a new router give me lower attenuation?

Thanks for any and all assistance!

WTF! How can you have 61 db attenuation??? I currently have 19 db attenuation. Before you get help from USELESS Telkom, I suggest you try and connect to your line with a friends router or wherever you can find one, because the spark doesn't sound very good.

Hope you get it fixed. ;)

One of my friends had a 384kbps ADSL connection with 69dB line attenuation.

Swapping the router for another one won't change the line attenuation, but it will change the SNR margins.

I'm fairly sure that you should be able to get Telkom to fix it. Good luck with it though.

Have you tried to check the attenuation with the telephone receiver removed from the cradle (off hook)? I have found that this often helps to improve the line characteristics if there is a bad joint at some point along the line.
