Ok, so my ADSL line has been down since yesterday morning (Thats when I noticed it)

So I tried to log into both my Afrihost and WebAfrica accounts but the same thing happens. The DSL LED on my Mega 105WR router comes on but the Internet LED stays off.

First I phoned Telkom support, they did a line test and said my line was fine I must phone my service provider. Sinse it happens with both my sp's I am pretty sure the fault is not with them.

But I phoned Afrihost in any case and the very friendly support guys checks all my settings on my router but everything is fine. He also can see on his side that my last login was on the 17'th. He then tells me to phone telkom to re-sync my line and get a order number and then to try and manually check and sync the line by going to www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl

So I phone telkom again and ask them to resync which they do and tell me everything is fine now and give me a order number. But, alas, nothing. I tried the web site to do the line check but still nothing.

Is there anything I can do to get this sorted out in this millennium? I have logged a fault with telkom but we all know how slow they are!:mad::mad:

I always try everything first before "sitting vas" with Telkom - that is something that I have learnt since having ADSL. Resseting modems, checking configs etc. etc

What I am not so sure about in your case is the your modems "internet" LED does not come on. My past experiences with that have always been with my ISP!! In your case you are using two different ISPs - (sits thinking )

Have you tried using a different modem?? (if you have one spare that is). Telkom will most probibly go through all that with you in any case.

Good luck with your problem. Hope you get sorted out soon.... ;)

I have tried all that and verified it with the Afrihost support guy

I changed my login name and password on the router to try the other ISP - WebAfrica

try the router mine was giving that issue and got a dreytek router and all was sorted

That should probably be my next move, just need to borrow a router somewhere to check.

Thanks for the replies

reset your modem to factory defaults - then enter the adsl details try and see if that works.

+ 1.

Firstly try your ISP accounts on someone elses line, to make sure that the accounts are both active, and you have the right username and password.

Then try your modem on someone elses line, and try someone elses modem on your own line.

If you still having problems, try changing/borrowing the ADSL filters and telephone cords.

Once you have eliminated all the non-Telkom possibilities, then you should start sitting on Telkom's head. However, this sounds to me like it is more of a modem issue.

If it isn't, and Telkom isn't able to help you, I would as a last resort apply for a new line, with new ADSL, and then if it is working, cancel the old one. Depends how desperate you are though, and if you can afford paying double for a month or 2.

I think there is also a Telkom Guest account that you could try. Can't remember the details though.

I had exactly the same problem. The guy at telkom insisted that my line was working fine and that my modem was broken. So I tried to explain to him that I tried 2 different modems but he then insisted that both my modems are broken. I laughed at him and hung up after spending probably an hour on the phone with him.

Five minutes later I phoned again. I was determined to fix this asap. A friendly lady picked up the phone. After I explained my problem to her she asked me to switch my modem off and give her 2mins. Later she asked me to switch the modem back on and booya, everything was working as intended.

It depends who you get at the call center. Some people just follow the step by step instructions while other try to actually fix your problem.

Ok, from the fact that my home machines have suddenly connected to the internet I guess my line has by some miracle corrected itself....

Be happy you are back up and running and hope and pray it doesn't happen again!!! :wtf:

Will let you browse telkom's site for testing purposes.

Had a tech at my house once who reckoned there was a method to access international (ie: ANY sites) using this login, effectively giving you uncapped internet. Maybe a proxy at telkom or something. But the catch was you had to know "a password or two". He said the last bit with a grin. His arm would not be twisted....

or at least anytime soon. The timing just sucked, I had a lot of research I had to do last night

I was with Sentech Mywireless before I got ADSL - I did not have so much downtime then as what I have got now with Telkom!!! And that is saying a lot!! :p :p :p
