I need help before I phone Telkom again.

I have a E5104N2 ADSL Wireless Modem and a MWEB uncapped account. My problem is this:

I keep on losing internet connection for some strange reason. Well not strange, I start getting packet errors. Thing is the line would be fine for a day and then it will start dropping packets like crazy. See img Below, when this happens all I can do is reset/restart it.

The funny thing is that the DSL line stays connected and Upstream/Downstream stays the same. See http://i.imgur.com/QlC57.jpg
When I simply reboot the router its fine again for some time.

Now my question:

Who do I contact to fix this. Telkom would do the normal its your router routine and wants to charge for a call out. MWEB will tell me it s line problem, and I don't exactly have another Modem to swap out to see. Or is it a simple case of replacing filters?

Maybe someone here can be clued up to give me the path of least resistance to get this sorted?

Is the line (voice) noisy? Ask Telkom to reset the port, they will do it while you are speaking to them. Are all your POTS filters in place, phones, fax, alarm.

I was thinking filters, only 2 small problems going this route. I do not have old phones to hear clarity (All my devices are cordless so they clean up noise) Checked if all the pots filters are in place and they are.

Thanx for the reset port, will ask them tonight/tomorrow. If its faulty filters who do I get to replace them or do I have to buy new ones?

Hi AlphaJohn,
Could you not borrow a handset from a neighbour to test the line?
If the line is clear and you have the port reset then the next place to look is the router. Again talk to you friends. Maybe someone at work can swap out with you for a couple of days. That waty you can see if the problem occurs again at your place or if the frriend has the problem happening. If both occur then the router is the problem

Time for an upgrade

Regards

Tim
