Hi guy ive decided to sign with open web 1mbps. I am currently on telkom prepaid I was wondering what kind of line do I need and how much it is per month. Do I sign the telkom closer 2 plan for R145 ?does this include a 1mbps line ?is it a 384 line if its a 384 line how much is a 1mbps line ..thanks sorry for all the questions I have to be sure what im getting into.

Closer Plans 1 2 & 3 Only Include Voice Line Rental

Closer Plan 4 is the same as Closer Plan 3 + 384K ADSL Line

All you really need is Closer Plan 1 (+-R140pm I think...)
and:
384K ADSL Line Rental: R152pm
or
1MB ADSL Line Rental: R289pm
or
4-10M ADSL Line Rental: R413pm

So, basically for a Post-Paid Voice Line + 1MB ADSL Line + Openwebb 1MB Uncapped
You'll Pay Telkom R140 + R289 = R429pm (Excluding Phone Calls)
And you'll still have to pay Openweb for the 1MB Uncapped Account.

Kinda sucks doesn't it. :(

So for a 1mbps line I have to pay for a telkom line and a telkom closer and openweb?

I have a Telkom Closer 4 thingy.
Recently I upped my linespeed from 384 to 1Mb.

All that happens is they split it into Closer 3 + <adsl> line.

The closer2 line does not include your adsl line.

Yes.

That's Correct.

These are the rules:

1. Postpaid Voice Line @ R140 is mandatory
2. On top of that, you have to pay R289 for the 1mb ADSL Line
3. Finally you have to pay your ISP (In this case, Openweb)
(Which is usually R359, but is on special right now for R219)

Yes.

Closer Plan 3 or 4 only makes sense if you make a lot of calls on your Telkom Line. Otherwise Closer 1 or 2 is all you need.

So I have to pay R651 for adsl (all the costs) that is bullsh#t . How much do you pay all in all for a 1mbps line incl voice line, adsl line and isp.

My internet costs breakdown:

Telkom:
DSL Fastest (4Mbit) R 413.00
Telephone Line R 140.00
Closer 2 R 37.00

Openweb Gold Uncapped R 738.00

Total R 1,328.00

My next door neighbour is visiting from Germany where he pays R150/month (15 Euro) for triple my line speed. It makes me sick

I'm on 384K, and I pay Telkom:

DSL (384K) R 152.00
Telephone Line R 140.00
Closer Plan 3 R 193.00 (I use my Telkom Phone a lot for Local, Mobile and International Calls)
I'm between ISP's at the moment, but I usually pay around R 199.00 to my ISP.

So my Total is: R 684.00 Excluding additional call charges.
Including calls, my total is around R 800.00

I refuse to pay for internet faster than 384K, since I use under 100GB per month, and
download speeds aren't important, since I don't game or stream video.
I would only get 1MB if I needed to push 120GB-250GB per month.
I would also only consider a 4MB+ line If I needed 300+GB per month.

I'm a firm believer that you should only rent a line that you can afford to pump data
through 24/7, otherwise you're wasting your money.

Unless of course your connection requirements stem further than just browsing and
downloading. :)

My advice to any prospective Uncapped Users: Always have 1 or 2... or 5 :D Capped
Accounts as a backup, since things don't always stay rosy with Uncapped Accounts.
