ADSL line max is 512k

Hi all

Currently have a 512k adsl on my line, went to telkom store and they told me it can support up to 4mb. My speed on the 512k, normally is between
420-460k.

But now I'm moving and my new exchange (Florida Park) will only support upto 512k, that will be no problem, but will my speed be 512k (or even 400k-512k)

Doesn't a max of up to 512k mean the quality can be bad??

I believe that telkom is trying to protect itself so that if your line speed is slower than 512 you can't do anything about it, but they are using this everywhere so it isn't a guarantee that your quality will be bad

Also moved to florida hills area, they told me its only 512kbps at the exchange, why? - is this because they will / want to install mini-dslams at a later stage through fiber? Hopefully there will be an upgrade one day - got so used to 4mbps.

When the techie phones I will ask him what's up, I chose self-install so they should in theory just flip a switch for me in about 3 weeks or so.

it could just mean that exchange is very far from your area

try and move to an area close to telkom is my motto

within a 2-3km radius
