Not strictly true........
I pay less than 150 for my .384 line which has been upgraded to 2 over the last few years. Works perfectly for Netflix and Showmax.
My line from Telkom, my data from Mweb which is also still charging the rate ± we started with in the late 90's. Uncapped and unthrottled.
I think folk ask too many questions......
Let sleeping dogs lie.
Maybe I can just clarify this after spending quite some time in discussions with Telkom technical, sales and social media teams. Line speed upgrades will only be leveraged to those customers currently on legacy uncapped packages from Telkom (so not if you only rent the ADSL line from them and use another ISP and not if you're already signed up on Home Unlimited). How the upgrades work, for e.g. is for a user currently on a 2Mbps uncapped package from Telkom, which costs in the range of R570 odd a month. That user will be upgraded to Home Unlimited 4 Mbps at R599 thereby getting a line speed increase at a marginal cost increase. Similarly, a user on 4Mbps uncapped is currently paying R780 odd a month will be upgraded to 8Mbps for R789 pm. There is no blanket speed increase to be offered. This is my understand (although I hope I'm wrong).
CORRECT. That's what I was told by the sale department.
