I got a very old marconi router which connect to a adsl line. At 4 mb I have to reset [repower] it at least once a week.
Since yesterday telkom increase the speed to 10, but I get about 6. But I had to restart the router last night about 3 times, today about 4 times. Is there a setting to set on it, or, is the marconi to old for the job.

You know what the answer is.

Throw it in the garbage and get something made in this decade. lol

Here you go.

Does anybody have a router that they no longer using? Something basic that can handle 10mB at least. Mine seems to be struggling with anything faster than 4Mb. I got it from the post office before they became Telkom. I'll sponsor beer when the prohibition ends. I stay just outside Orania.

Might also be a line issue. Depends how far you stay from the exchange as the cable run (not according to the crow) Try to log into modem and see if you can find any line stats. Added that a newer modem might be more capable of compensating for a bad line.

I have been very happy with my cheap Tenda ADSL router. It has a Broadcom chipset which seems to cope very well with a noisy ADSL line. The WiFi range on this routers is also the best that I have ever experienced on any other router that I have used over the years.

So in my town there is no adsl router.
I got 2 choices.
Follow @Jake45 and buy that router and keep on 4mb adsl. currently with the telephone R600 .
Or just move to LTE telkom or Afrihost/axxess.
Advice please

I have a couple ADSL routers including a sealed-in-box, unused Telkom Netgear DGN2000, used DG834 and DG834GT, a D-link 2500u, and a Zyxel VMG1312-B. I also have a 2-Wire 2701HG. If anyone wants any of these please DM me. Based in JHB West. No longer need them as I've switched to fibre.

@upnp: The cheapest option for you will be to change to Telkom's new naked 4Mbps ADSL service. The cost is R199 for the first 6 months and then R329 per month for the next 18 months. You can also get a free WiFi router if you remain on the same plan for two years. You no longer need to pay for a landline service so you could cut off your landline and just use the ADSL. Telkom also offer a Voip service and you could transfer your existing landline number to this service and receive Voip calls via your ADSL service.
Here are details regarding the Telkom IP Voice service ...

Alternatively you could consider an LTE based service from either Telkom or the Afrihost Pure LTE service. I am currently using the 30+30GB Pure LTE plan from Afrihost for R199 per month but I am considering switching back to ADSL after the recent price reductions. The LTE services offer good value if you don't require more than 60+60GB of data per month. If you are planning to use more data than this then ADSL will work out much cheaper. You will probably need to purchase a router to use the Pure LTE service from Afrihost. If you already have an approved router (Huawei B525, B612, B618 or ZTE MF268 etc.) then you only need to order the SIM only option. The SIM plus router option costs an additional R50 per month and there is a once off fee of R1000.

The Telkom prepaid 60 day bundles are quite competitively priced if you split them over two months. If you don't already have a router you could use them from a cell phone via WiFi or from a R600-00 Telkom MiFi device etc.

Once you have decided whether you want to stay with ADSL or to switch to LTE we can offer you more detailed advice.

PS Some of the old Marconi modems might only be compatible with ADSL (max of 8Mbps). Telkom DSLAMs are capable of ADSL2+ speeds (24Mbps). Just check the router manual or the model number online for the specs.
