ADSL Modems

I need a dummies guide to setup the POTS (piece of telcom s**t) Router. I want to host from home on a 2003.net server box (multiple webs) trought DSL. What sould I do to get the www visible from outside... I got a DNS hosted at no-ip.com so that's done... How do you setup the NAT/PAT/Static Routing etc on the POTS router?

Is it ADSL Annex A or B ???.
Some European stuff is made only for ADSL over ISDN lines instead of POTS.
 
Hi,
I'm looking for a single port (I aready have 16 port switch) ADSL router that has firewall and port forwarding capabilities. Many people have recommended Negear but what are my other choices? I've seen posts about the SMC 7401BRA Router, is it any good and does it support port forwarding?
 
I may sound like a fanboy, but Netgear is worth every cent. Many people recommend it because it is very good. DG834 all the way!
 
Do you know where I can buy Netgear stuff in Durban? Also, besides the extra 4-ports, what do the more expensive Netgear routers have that the DG632 doesn't?? Is it worth paying more for 3 extra ports that i'll never use?

I will be going ADSL in the next few months, and this modem is the cheapest of them all...interestingly its got decent reviews on the websites I've looked it up on.

Sybaritic also advertise on MyADSL, so you probably can expect a good level of service given RPM's criteria for advertisers...
 
Is there someone who has used a TrendNet router? Were there any complications? Also, can somebody explain what the VPN support in expensive routers does? I have a windows VPN (RAS) server on my network already, do I need a VPN enabled router to run my VPN server?

I tried a number of ADSL modems, including the Telkom one.

Billion was by far the best. Linksys the worst.

The Billion even has a utility that tests the line quality, days with high humidity or rain I can see the line quality drop slightly. This gives you the ability to identify whether a slow speed problem is due to the Telkom line having water in a junction box somewhere, or with your ISP.

As a straight forward ADSL modem, Billion Modems works like a charm!!

Linksys Wireless N Gigabit Router WRT610N - coupled to which ADSL modem?

I have just bought the Linksys indicated above, but am a little unsure as to the best ADSL modem to couple with. I am not that Network savvy, so research itself is a little tough. I am looking to tap the brains around here for some advice. I would like to optimise the performance of the Linksys by making sure I have the right quality modem linked to it. Do you have any suggestions as to the modem I could acquire?
