Allthough it is technically possible telkom does not currently offer ADSL over ISDN. I was previously told that telkom encountered network problems when providing ADSL over an ISDN line. Par for the course telkom as been indicating for the last two years that they are working on solving these problems.

Does this mean that you had to have ISDN installed before proceeding?

No - what it means if you had ISDN when applying for ADSL you must either first convert your ISDN line back to analogue or as I did apply for a new analogue line for the ADSL and retain your ISDN as a seperate line.
