My upload speed is fried - some expert insight would be much appreciated.
Some background;
On the 26 Dec I could not log into the Playstation Network - so I popped the proverbial hood on my ADSL to see what gives.
Step 1: run Speedtest;
- speedtests indicates 'normal' latency (20ms local. 200ms international)
- download speed in the normal range (3.75Mbps local. 2.30Mbps international. This is a 4MB line)
but when it comes to the upload part of the test - it appears as if everything hangs for almost a minute before anything happens - speedtest.net and mybb speedtest;
- upload speed is pretty much dead (0.05Mbps local. 0.01 international). Usually around 0.5Mbps
Step 2: Change Router
- I have a spare Netgear DGN2200 - so I swop the Belkin N+ with the DGN2200
- Result is the same as in Step 1 above.
Step 3: Re-create the port
- Phone Telkom and ask them to re-create the port
- Result still unchanged - uploads speeds are poked
- Telkom tells me line is testing 'fine' on their side
Step 4: Phone ISP and reset the line
- Phone Mweb. Some diagnostics and changes on their side. Reset the router.
- No joy.
Step 5: Test different ISP
- Change the ISP from MWeb to Plugg (I'm not sure if this was a waste of time as I understand both are on IS?)
- No Joy
Step 6: Log a fault with Telkom
- I logged a fault with Telkom - although they swear the line is testing 'normal' on their side.
- I have convinced them to send a technician - which could take anything from a day to who knows when.
Am I overlooking something here? As far as I can see;
Hardware OK
ISP OK
I Suspect the fault is with Telkom - but they appear think otherwise
Any ideas would be appreciated - the issue is preventing me from logging into any sort of online gaming due to timeouts and I also realized that I cannot Teamviewer into the machine using the affected line - It connects but it takes 2 minutes just for a screen to load - obviously due to the fact that my outgoing traffic is pretty much dead. I have also checked that there is no 'upload traffic' during all of the above.
Desperate - please help.
