Hey maybe someone could explain or put me on the right track.

I have a client that seems to have DNS problem in houtbay. The would lose browsing ability but skype would stay on and webpages would respond intermittently but would almost con complete.

After calling telkom and "resetting" or "re-mapping" the ports still no success... to eventually being given a proxy setting to use? so physically I have had to go to each machine on the network and enable a proxy setting and then browsing works perfectly?

Anyoneo got any ideas or come across this before.

PS: I am using a netgear router with a TELKOM adsl service.

Please let me know if I am the only one... telkom seem to think that in a certain area of cape town has the probelm and in houtbay.

cheers

I just use 8.8.8.8 on all my machines for DNS - solves 99% of my DNS problems 99% of the time.

So using google PUblic DNS solves it for you... I will give that a try,

I tend to switch ISP accounts on a regular basis, play around with the network etc etc so using a central public DNS as my primary DNS made sense for my setup. Do note that DNS requests to 8.8.8.8 would be subject to a longer delay compared to local DNS server requests due to latency. Eg. 180ms vs 20ms.
