ADSL price increases explained

Then why when the Dollar became weaker against the Rand didn't we see any prices drop.

It's IS BS.

Big BS, I had uncapped express with Webafrica, the threshold was reduced from 30gig every 10 days to 10gig.
I received no notification and when I queried it was made to sound crazy until I looked at initial emails from them which said 30gig.

One could consider that a price increase!!!

and the worst is nobody can do anything about it....shut up and pay! ;)

And that's exactly what the SA consumer does. Whinge on a forum, and then pay the rip-off anyway. If the SA consumer had any balls they would all stand together and boycott the companies, move their accounts elsewhere and protest loudly and in spectacular fashion, then we'd see some real change in SA.

Move it where???

move their accounts elsewhere

WOO YEA!!! that's what we'll do! OK everyone here is the plan: We all move our accounts to another provider! That other provider is Telkom... so everyone boycott IS so that we can run them out of business and have only Telkom remaining. Because Telkom doesn't rip us off!!

It's brilliant!!... OK I see you're not convinced.

That is alright as I have a planB and it goes like this: We move to a third provider! Granted this plan does require that we all leave the country to get to the afore-mentioned provider, but that is OK... after all now we're taking action and boycotting an infrastructure provider so it is worth it. Of course we have to boycott the airlines because they're ripping us off too, so flying is out of the question. All we do is take the bus to Egypt, take a ferry across to somewhere in the middle east and ride a camel into Europe. YEA!!!

That'll show those IS bastards!

EDIT: WAIT! there is a "planC"! We can go to Neote -what?... you don't have converage?... oh ok nevermind then sorry false alarm there is no planC.

lol +1

if its linked to dollar ..... 50$ buys a lot of faking uncapped bandwidth.... internationally
so at current rate that works out to +- R600

How about they pass that same thing to us..

I have it on good authority that 1mb of tier 1 IP costs around US$1,200 at the staging point for SAT-3 in Madeira.

The problem comes in when the owners of that cable and Telkom then start adding their charges and suddenly the price skyrockets by the time it's reached Melkbos.

I suppose there is a choice at least, we can just dump the IS and try our luck on Neotel. I think thats probably the way I will go, been thinking about it for a while and this may be the bit to tip me in that direction.

I agree that this is the way to address profiteering...now if only they would cover my area...

Brilliant idea, however a plan D might also work. It follows plan B, on the return from Europe we can pick up some suicide bombers in the middle east. On the bus ride back from Egypt we can tell them all about the evil "westernised" giant Telkom, and then get them employed...things will go as expected.

Hmm

IS over all is a great ISP.

They are not gready like what has been made out here by telkom employees.

Their bandwidth does cost them a small... no wait LARGE fortune!

I bet you they will drop there prices long before telkom does when seacom lands.

always a excuse to make more money. all hopes are pinned on a cable landing here..... not much is going to change when it does
