hey

do you guys think that there's going to be a price war with ADSL now? i see that axxess price is being beaten by imaginet.

maybe the consumers will be the winners here, if isp's compete more strongly, the benefit falls to the consumer. question is, how low can you go before the service gets crap?

what do you guys think? cheap is good, free is better? *cackle*

well, i'm ordering mine, with the telkom line price dropping, and imaginet's price, i can actually afford ADSL on my meagre salary.

bring on the price war!

I hope that we will see price decrease, but I doubt that it will be substantial in short term ...

You can see that they all use the telkom pipe, so I guess telkom dictates the prices, and the private companies can vary them very little (like <50R) as otherwise they will be losing money due to the high prices they pay to telkom for that bandwidth ...

So I guess in a year or two this prices will be much less, but I wouldn't hope for this to happen this year ...

Boodah, yes, I do believe it's a price war. If it wasn't, then the ISP's wouldn't be trying to undercut one another.

But the problem is, it can't go much further down until Telkom drops their pricing. As we all know, the ISP's aren't making much money on the ADSL accounts.

lewstherin, I really hope Axxess will drop their prices, because I would really like to go with them, as I've heard nothing but good feedback with regard to their service. I look forward to it.

I noticed Imaginet have an activation fee though, Axxess doesn't.

So without activation fee they win! Erm, come on imaginet. how bout dropping the activation and skimming another ten bucks off that price?

FYI for everyone - axxess.co.za have just dropped their prices to match imaginet :)

Yay. I was hoping they would undercut slightly, but matching is still a good thing. They're on the ball - their website has already been updated. So, you can now get a 10GB account for only R130 more than Telkom's 3GB account. It's actually crazy. Telkom should either increase the cap or drop their prices drastically for the 3GB accounts. 3GB should cost no more than R100.

I'm not yet sure how it works. They state that the activation fee includes first partial month's subs.

If anyone plans on contacting Imaginet, please ask them what this means exactly.

Well Axxess has just changed their pricing to match Imaginet.. wonder what next :)

Man, imagine the competition if Telkom didn't have everyone by the nuts. Everyone clearly wants to be competitive and offer us better options.

still with axxess's good rep, i stil wouldn't move to the others even if they cut it by R100

eh so do I get a R20 refund from the R399 that I paid Axxess yesterday

Will be moving to axxess on my Home DSL most likely in August when the line rental drops, possibly.
Depends on whether the Datapro uncapped at the offices I'm moving too is any good :D

Phone them :)

This is great that there is a price-war :D. Everyone wants to be competitive - except Telkom. It's sad that they can only reduce by R50.

Imaginet activation fee is a cost saving!

Hey Guys

I've just spoken with the accounts people at imaginet. Very interesting!!! :D

Check this out - here's a clever little pimp tactic; see, the activation fee covers your month's fees. So if you sign up early in the month, like today, the 9th, they charge you the activation fee. At the end of June, they charge you the subscription price for July - you're basically paying a month in advance.

So what it means is that you can actually get a month for almost nothing.

Unfortunately, there's a one month cancellation requirement so you can't really abuse it. But hats off to them for at least taking the initiative.

I spoke to one of their customers, they reckon Imaginet is the best ISP they've been with - I've got a dial up with them, and its been hassle free, but then I pretty much do my own tech support :P

Anyway, this is all very exciting, the bottom line is that the consumer is winning.

Oh, one other interesting comment; I asked the people at Imaginet what happens if Axxess matches their price, and they reckon that they've been around for 9 years already - the only reason that they've lasted this long is because they actually care about their clients. They even survived the free Absa internet thing, most of their clients stuck with them.

Anyway, viva the consumer.

Pramod

This is great news for the consumer, though I can only imagine how razor thin their profit margins are given Telkom's pricing!

Hey guys, I currently have an Imaginet 4gb account, had the 3gb then they upgraded it to 4gb for no extra charge o_O. And its great, I've had no problems with them at all. I'm thinking about getting a 10gb account with them, or maybe I should just wait a little longer. Never know whats gonna happen now. :D Just thought i'd give you guys thinking about Imaginet some feedback. They're not bad at all :D

Nothing from AYCE - dissapointing.

I'm sure they will join the party at some stage. Hopefully by that time they'll have caught a wake-up-call about their stupid 6 month contract. Afterall, they would have to seriously undercut the competition to make anyone willingly sign a six month contract when the other companies don't have contracts.
