ADSL prices drop

Price definately needs to drop further. Hellkom needs to drop line rental and reduce ISP costs.

nothing works with "forcing" ... it works with competition ... if there is competition no one needs to force anyone to do anything ... they will just be out of business shortly

Yet in this country competition seems to have no effect, look at our cellular menage a' troi, many people had great hopes that the introduction of a third cellular operator would see prices drop.. that obviosly turned out to be a false hope.

Now when we finally get our fabled Second Network Operator, what is the chance of them not either being regulated to hell by Telkom funded government departments and officials or hopping straight into bed with Telkom to keep prices fixed at rediculous prices. Competition only works when it is true, independant competition, not the collaborative monopolistic version we see in so many industries in this country.

I apologise if I seem overly negative here, but these price increases really are a joke, little more than table scraps to try and give the illusion that the government and Telkom are actually listening to and looking out for the South African public.

MFour, I have some doubts about the SNO too ... that's way I gave up waiting ... I waited for like 3-4 years, and I am sick of waiting ...

You waited? I never even began to wait, never thought it would even get this far. ;)

Just worked out that for the HomeDSL384 package, the cost ranges from around R630pm to R850pm excluding call costs

Well i'll never complain about the price coming down... But if those prices are correct i'll be upgrading to 512 when it changes... However the line rental is still absurd, i don't even use my landline except when they f*** with my adsl connection... I just wish the isp cost would come down...

Long Live the Internet!!
Censorship sucks!
Thats just the way it is...

The above depends on things like choice of ISP and whether you take the InfiniCall

a step in the right direction. As much as I would like them to scrap or completely drop the costs, reality check. I don't think this is the end. Thanks for MyADSL for forcing these changes and of course us the users / customers.

Ping....... [Plonk] :P

Yeah jongi you're right, but i cancelled my extra services when i changed.. dumb i know.. but oh well...

I concur *raises glass*
Hears to RPM and all the others that laid it into telkom at the Icasa hearing! *Cheers!*

 .... I personally thought they would do away with the rental .... .... given that they'll completely disconnect you once you are capped this makes it even worse ...... come to think of it it's a rip off ..... My 3GB normally runs out in less than a week meaning I'll be paying monthly rental for something I use for a week.

This Only Makes "Broadband" more expensive .... sis man ...

brilliant move, now they just need to make the analogue rental an option (for if you actually want a stupid analogue phone or not. I dont) and then increase the montly bw. theyve got us begging for scraps that even if they upped it to 4gb a month we'd be dancing around.

not quite... I've had 10 gigs for the past month and it's suited my needs perfectly.. I don't want anything less than that. No dancing around for scraps here. The price decrease is most welcome, but not nearly enough. 3 gigs has never been, is not, and will NEVER be enough. Period. 4 gigs? No.

So if you pass your limit you then have to dial up?

only on a 2gb account, 3gb will still work with capped intl and normal local.

but its still better than 3? and at the moment we'd be happy with any increase.

Then sign up with axxess. I don't think you'll find anyone here who would be even mildly satisfied with 4 gigs.. A price reduction is always welcome, but such a draconian capping system? That's just bullsh1t. 10 gigs should be the minimum, no less. The people on this board are not the type to just bend over, take a shaft, and sing praise when telkom add a little lube.

Agreed, although for the current price one should receive 30 and then be throttled to 64k.

What a load of Crok.
Talk about "Silence the masses before we drop the bomb"!
you know I'm refering to the "Completely Cut off after hitting your Cap" thats going to be announced soon...

It is exaclt as has been said before. They make us "jump for spare change" then when they stick in the cap cut they'll justify it by saying they dropped the line rental - __Which Shouldn't Have Been There In The First Place__.

Its as bad as the government and the pertol price, down 15 cents, up 49 a week later yet even when its down you're still getting ripped off.

Am I happy with the price cuts. No.

They only provide justification for worse things to come.

Edit: But thanks to the guys that have work very hard for all the things like this that we do get. Big ups to you!

SBC drops ADSL price to $15 pm

SBC drops ADSL price to $15 pm

"The promotional rate for SBC Yahoo DSL Express, which requires a one-year contract and lasts for 12 months, is priced well below what many dial-up Internet services as well as rival broadband providers charge.

The $15 rate for DSL brings entry-level download speeds of between 384 kilobits per second to 1.5 megabits per second. The price will revert after one year to the regular fee, currently about $27."

Now thats what I call a decent decrease, already at a decent price.

I would be a ADSL user at any of those prices in that article
