Hi guys i want to know something...I see all these ISPs offering us ADSL bundles for R600+ - for 512Kbps and line rental but what else do i have to pay to telkom?or do they cover everything in that price?and can i just have the ADSL line,i dont want to pay for my telephone ect?

you still pay for the call line ie closer option one is the cheapest at R130pm including either caller id or itemised billing.

so eg R599 (512kb uncapped) + R130 call rental = R629pm The R599 includes your adsl rental fee

edit: the data only options don't include you adsl line rental and caller option\s
 
Well, i think u have to read the fine print a lil more, i am just guessing that currently mweb uncapped has matched afrihost on the 384k line (349, includes data and adsl line rental) but higher looks like mweb has bettered what afrihost
ie 512k line : 599(mweb) , 623(afrihost).
4096k line : 899(mweb) , 910(afrihost).
not sure if these include vat
If anyone can prove me wrong, please do.
 
It remains to be seen how reliable some of these providers are. We were with SAOL for some time and then they just started going downhill. Three months of a bad connection from them saw us move to Afrihost. Been with them for about 4-5 months now and haven't had an issue yet (touch wood).

EDIT: I'm talking about our work connection for those confused about my sig ;)
 
ok managed to view via a proxy, good price there but it does mention upfront that it is a shaped product.
does that mean it only shaped during the day and unshaped after hours (at night) ? cos then it will be worth it for sure !

R499 for a 4mb line is insane ! :D maybe its not such a bad thing that telkom is taking forever with my line, by the time they finally install everything prices are gonna be at a all time low !

edit: i don't think this includes the adsl line rental or call line so all in all this should work out similar to mwebs R899 for 4mb line ... i stand to be corrected though

To qoute what i saw in IS's terms listed on their front page.....

There are no rolling window periods or hidden thresholds on this account.
This account is classed as a shaped service.
This account allows all traffic types including P2P and torrents.

When they talk about thresholds they're talking about a hidden cap. If they go by what they say then no they won't throttle you after <insert insane amount of gigs used here>.

P2P is used for a lot of games......... does this mean it wont get pushed to the back of the "que" in the day?

Yeah - we're thinking of doing the Telkom line as there is a large discount that can be offered on it... e.g. MWeb are charging R360 and Telkom R413... and according to our pricing, that's still a R10 profit for MWeb.

I just knwo the hassles that others have had with using otehr providers moving to another or back to Telkom... might have to bite the bullet though!
