ADSL problems on MWEB affect all Internet service providers

Main complaint I have right now is that my internet connection drops-out often - almost every time I connect, and either surf or download mp3's (especially happens when downloading), the internet light goes from green to red.

Unrelated to MWeb as I'm not with them - either VOX (whose login details are in my router) or Telkom. I've noticed I'm now on an ''up to 10Mbps exchange" having gone up from 4Mbps, so am inclined to think Telkom's messing around at the DSLAM or whatever it's called, has done something to change the stability of my ADSL.

Any thoughts, as I'd be interested to know if more of you are experiencing the same ?

EDIT : this happened again in the last half-hour ; need to reboot modem continually.

In contrast: I have dozens of unresolved tickets with Afrihost (and this very forum is witness that clearly more than "a number" of people have issues) - in all cases it is ISP related due to insufficient capacity planning and high contention ratios. The poor planning and the sweating of assets by ISPs is the real reason why consumers are affected by poor service levels.

This. It's called maximizing of profits whilst cutting out overheads... and thinking customers will not notice.

one thing I have noticed, is that Internet access improves a lot when load shedding is active.
I also notice that when my area is load shed, my ADSL line quality jumps from 3Mbit line sync to 5Mbit (my router is on a UPS), also confirming Telkom is taking shortcuts.

So plain and simple, the ISP's and Telkom are oversubscribing.

Is the same thing also happening on 3G during loadsheddings?

Scratch that, doff question. :o
