AAARG. How annoying is this: When I signed up with telkom to get ADSL it was during the promotion where you get a free marconi ethernet router and and free instalation but they charged me for both.

Could somebody please provide some infomation so I can get my facts right (and kick some ass at the telkom offices) from when the promotion started and when it ended. I applied for the ADSL line in the last week of November and and they installed it on the 12th of December.

Thanks for you help.

Hi JBenci

To the best of my knowledge you always get the modem for free with a 24 month contract...from the Telkom site: "The monthly rental covers the normal ADSL connectivity and free modem if the customer signs a 24 month contract. Should the customer cancel the service before the contract expires, a cancellation fee of R62.19 (Excl VAT) per month for the number of months remaining in the contract will be charged. The exchange line rental is payable in addition to the connectivity and ADSL Internet rental." I think this is a simple accounting error...good luck with correcting it.

Regards,

RPM

Thanks RPM I remember that now. I did sign up for a 24 month contract. Now whats the Installation costs? I was charged around R460 for installation (I don't have the bill handy at the moment). Im sure instalation should of been free!
Does that seem right?

I really should have kept the documentation.

None of this stuff is available from www.telkomsa.net or www.telkom.co.za .

These are the prices that I will have to pay for the first month of my ADSL account.

Startup Costs :

Once Off fees :

Line Installation : R 249 (Only if you don't have a line or won't be using one already installed)
ADSL Installation : R 404

Plus

Monthly Fees

Line Rental : R 77
ADSL (a Month) : R 449
ISP ( if telkom) : R 249

So more or less the first bill should be something like : R 1 429 * This is for the Monthly ADSL and not the 24 Month contract .... but I am sure you'll be able to see what goes where

Noble_Nanobot, please clarify: the R449/month is for HomeDSL384? and all the prices already include VAT?

So, R77+R449+R249=R775 minimum monthly spend (i.e. excludes analogue call charges - normal telephone calls). Why does the R77 line rental seem a bit lower than reality- does that figure include VAT?

R 449 / Month is for the 384Kbps connection.
R 775 per month minimum is solely for ADSL and no calls included (I Don't intend making calls on it ... )
R 77 To my knowledge that's the line rental cost .... that I was told by a telkom consultant I spoke to ..... + my prevous bill : line rental was R 73.45 ... VAT included .... so I think R 77 is more or less correct ... infact the consultant said R 77!

Bare in my the line rental I settled i.e R 73.45, was on my normal line not ADSL but it should be the same afterall.

PEACE!!!

Ok, I still have an ISDN2a line which confuses the line rental costs somewhat- waiting for April iBurst launch before I decide what to do with the ISDN line.

I was Right!!!

During the promotion period this was all free:

FREE HomeDSL modem worth R1099.00
FREE HomeDSL installation worth R404.00
FREE Home line istallation worth R274.36
FREE activation of CallCatcher.

SAVE R1777.36 in startup costs.

I was quite shocked at my first bill and knew it wasn't right. I went to telkoms office today and made my query. Turns out Loads of people who signed up during the promotion were billed incorrectly. Wow, Im just glad things are sorted now

RPM, is this not worthy of another press release or something- I mean just to really show that Telkom are full of it...

The worst of all this only applied to 24month contract, so in reality you dont score anything and telkom still make sure it will cover the cost over 24months :/

Just as you think you win, Telkom proves you wrong :D
