Hi, which ADSL routers would you suggest?

Just a normal ADSL2/2+ router with 4x ethernet switch?

I have seen two:
D-LINK DSL-2540U ADSL2/2+ 4-PORT ROUTER
Billion 5200S ADSL Modem/Router with Ethernet Switch

Thanks

I like Billion, but the 5200S is outdated already, I don't know the age of D-link, too lazy to google :p

I have the D-LINK DSL-2740U

Very nice router, lol just wish i knew how to port forward etc,

I R DOFF

Cool , thanks :)

The website I searched at, the 7300 was 800 :O

I see that micts price is comparable to the other older routers I mentioned.

I personally believe that Netgear makes very, very good routers. The DG834GT is excellent (but only 'g' not 'n'). Been using it for years now (well, actually I am on my second one because the first was blown up by lightning) and it's been rock-solid stable. I think there is also modded firmware out for it (if you are into that sort of thing), AND Netgear is still making firmware updates available for it (most recently adding the capability to use multiple DG834GTs as repeaters). Also has good support for programs that help you troubleshoot problems or just monitor your ADSL connection, such as RouterStats.

It comes with a filter in case you need one, and a detachable aerial which you can replace with a more powerful one if you need to.

My 7300M also came with a filter if memory serves. It has 3 aerials which are also detachable and that makes it a MIMO router.

Only problem I have with Billion, as you mentioned that Netgear frequently updates firmware. Billion sucks in this regard and it's not as if the firmware is working flawlessly....

Cool - I guess the filter is part of the standard package then.

I didn't know the Billion was a MIMO router. That's where the DG834GT is lacking. It's definitely not MIMO and only 108Mbps if you use Netgear hardware on the laptop / PC connecting to the Netgear router, which also supports the proprietary Netgear technology to boost to 108Mbps (it's all a gimmick, in my opinion).

I've had Billion hardware before, and it has always given me problems, which, as you say, they don't fix with firmware (or driver) updates.

Ok, teraside, so is the problems that you experience such that you need to do firmware updates?
The Netgear is a bit on the expensive side...

+1

I'd stay away from digital planet and incredible connection, there are more cheaper more reliable (and faster) people out there who'd deliver to you...

But I'd spend R2k on a netgear if it means I can get one today. Thats how convinced I am its the best fcking router around

I wouldn't say so, but updated firmware means updated firewall, updated configuration and updated speed in my opinion.

I still say Billion is a great router to own though, I've just had a few small hiccups ;)

LOL, yeah I know digital planet and Incredible CoRRuPtion are not very reliable. Will have a look at the Netgear, but currently the Billion 7300 suggested is the one im deciding on, price wise :D

And also have you tried phoning Billion support and asking about the problems you are having, if any???
