ADSL Self-Install Questions/Issue [RESOLVED]

Hello,

I finally got my ADSL on Monday, 7 days after order. I opted for a self-install to save on the installation costs, and maybe speed up the process.

I bought a D-Link DSL-2500U router, but am having issues with either the router or something on Telkom's side, as it will NOT connect.

The router is syncing, had to get the agent at 10215 to verify my line yesterday, which must have been done, as it's now syncing at the correct speeds.

However, even after entering my username and password into the router configuration, it still does not connect. The "Internet" light flashes green constantly, but the "Status" light does not come on at all, it just flickers for less than a second or so at random intervals.

Looking at the status when I login to the router, it says that it does connect to the PPP server, and that authentication was successful, but pinging the gateway, and testing the assigned IP, is a "FAIL" status. Basically, my router is not getting an IP assigned to it by the PPP server, is what I can figure out.

When I contaced TelkomInternet yesterday, the agent said it wasn't authenticating as the line wasn't verified. However, after the line verification it is still not working, as in I cannot browse to any websites, local or international.

There is a field for "ServiceName", or similar, underneath the fields for the username and password, does anything have to be inserted here?. I have verified that the VPI, VCI, and Encapsulation settings are correct, the MTU is 1492/1392 (from memory, so not sure which one), is THIS correct, does it even matter?. Connection type is PPPoE.

What more must I do, do I need to resort to 0800375375, does that number work after hours, for assistance?. I have reset the router multiple times, and reentered the configuration information, but still no joy.

TIA

I had the same thing yesterday at someones house, you have to reset the modem/router after the line verification.

'ServiceName' can be ignored - Leave Blank.
Just a thought here (as I had the same issue and it took Telkom Support a while to figure it out...)

Under your ADSL Settings (Where you have VPI & VCI..)

Is your 'Multiplexing Method' Set to 'LLC Based' ? (That is what it should be.)
I had mine set to 'VC Based' initially and experienced the same kind of problems.

I think it is set to LLC based, will confirm this when I get home.

I have reset the router multiple times without success.

@Mineer, will try your idea if the "Multiplexing Method" is already set to LLC, or if setting it to that doesn't work.

After all that, they had given me the incorrect username, once I input the correct name, it worked just fine!. Yay!.
