ADSL Self install

what do you mean how far and when
you just call them and tell them you want that option. that's all.

When did you apply - I've done a few self installs within the last few months. All were up and running within 1-2 weeks.

So you applied last year!! :)

might be a bit soon. Maybe you might get a call by Fri if your lucky. I don't know if Telkom are back to full steam ahead this year....then again I don't think they ever run at full steam.

Mine took 1 month.

I'd suggest waiting 2 weeks, then making a polite follow-up call.

Wait another 2 weeks, then make not-so-polite follow-up call.

My line took 3 weeks but my friend ordered his 4 days ago and they had it installed and activated today. MAYBE YOU WILL GET LUCKY!
Well this was in Richards Bay I suppose if you go to much bigger places like Cape Town,Durban,JHB you will wait longer.

It depends on what needs to be done.

If they need to install the line and everything then 2 weeks.

If they just need to get you on the right dslam then it can take very little time, mine took 24hrs.

Go to Telkom direct, talk to the nice lady and ask her politely to motivate the installation for you, works wonders!

Whats the consensus ... self install quicker through call centre or shop, or does it not make a diff? What about responsiveness when bugging for status?

Well, for me personally, I have had MUCH less trouble going to the shop and asking them to do whatever I need (excluding stuff like ISP accounts). They have the info in front of them and you can calmly explain your problem/need to someone who you can at least understand and 9 out of 10 times you get great response from them.

I have had, on more than one occasion and town, had the lady phone the technician right there and then to hear what could be done to help me and I will follow no other route anymore.
Sitting and listening to "Lion King, proudly brought to you by..." for 30 minutes is not in my blood...

I went via phone, but some say shops are better because you have someone to shout at if things are not going as planned.

I'd also say go to the shop. At least then you've got a face and a name and you can go back anytime and complain. No waiting. With the phone call you wait 30-45 mins to get through and then if your lucky they won't slam the phone down on you.

I got mine ordered and installed in 2 days, It's beautiful when you KNOW a Telkom techy :) hehe.

mine 2 :D. i remember calling them on a tuesday and thursday they called me back and said it's ready. then i just went to get my router, got home and set it up. in no time i was surfing the net. it's a rare, good Telkom experience compared to what most have experienced.

I don't know any "Telkom techy" yet I called in the morning and the following afternoon I was online with the self install month 2 month Do 3 package.:)

I must admit I was very surprised with the quick service and so far have nothing to complain about.:D

Well I aplplied for a phone line and got it in 1 day and now so far been waiting for ADSL self install since Monday, also went into the shop in person and it does seem to be a better way to do it.

Where can I find the self install procedure.

I know you get it with the modem when you pick it up from the shop, but I am planning ahead. I did it once and remember that I had to call Telkom to get username and password for client. Strange that they cannot just provide it when handing over the modem.

What is the number to call, so that I could ask my client to call in advance if she does not have this info yet?

Anyone know if you are supposed to have the info in advance?
