Please help! ADSL setup is driving me slowly insane. I bought a Netgear N300 Wireless ADSL2+ Modem router from Telkom. After following the installation setup exactly as shown, the internet light is still not working. Error message is indicating no network adapter, although it's connected to the ethernet port on the laptop. I've tried on another laptop, same problem. How to troubleshoot this?

Did you you verify your ADSL line with telkom with order no at

Is your VPI 8 and VCI 35?
Encapsulation: LLC ?

Woah, too advanced for me. But will do some research.

In the meanwhile Telkom had forgotten to link ADSL to the line at the exchange. :D

I'm really angry at Telkom. They're really know how to mess a new customer around. After again confirming the ADSL is active, it's not active at all. The Fault department referred me to Service department, who wanted to refer me back to Fault's department. I feel like a ping bong ball. To top it all, the Cancellations department is only open in the morning.

No more browsing the ADSL sections for me, thank you very much.

@jingaling Your problem might be unrelated, but thought just to advise anyway.

I've got the exact same router and I've had reboot cases where my "Internet" LED will stay red, but my connection is very well established.

*That is if you haven't already tested without that light throwing you off.

Best of luck man :)

I did try that in vain because the ADSL line is not activated, even though it was confirmed via SMS. At least, that's what the Faults Department told me.

Thanks for the luck, will be needing it when interacting with the Cancellations department.

Hi There,
If you got the line through Afrihost then contact them. Service from them is excellent. I had to replace a router recently and they helped son through all the set up parameters.

You pay them to provide the service and support so use them.

Regards

Tim

Thanks for the advice.

Ok, so I've contacted them. The agent logged a call for me. Hopefully they'll be able to persuade a Telkom technician to finally port my line to the exchange.

Three components:
1. Line rental
2. ADSL rental
3. ISP

Who has what?
1.
2.
3. Afrihost

Currently:

1. Telkom
2. Telkom
3. Afrihost

Telkom is sending the bill to Afrihost for the ADSL rental and it gets deducted off my account. Two amounts deducted separately - ADSL rental (straight to Telkom) and ISP (Afrihost). But the ADSL is actually non existent because Telkom hasn't ported my line to the exchange so there's just a straight telephony line.

In whichever year the Telkom technician decides to port the line, Afrihost will be taking over the management of the ADSL rental and paying it over to Telkom so the deduction will be one amount.

Default the router. You will find the reset button on underside of modem. Hold until modem reboots.
Wait for synch light to become stable. Check internet/pope led. If green after the reset, then you entering your isp details incorrectly. You should be able to open www.saix.net with the modem on default.

Really sorry to hear that you're having problems. Drop me a PM so I can follow up on our side - or check if there's anything that we've missed :(

No worries, you guys at Afrihost are great! Telkom technician came round so the line is now ported. Faith in Telkom restored. :)
