I wonder if someone can assist me

Im currently using iburst, but I see now that you can get adsl for quite a bit cheaper so im probably going to move over to that.

now my question is as follows- iburst advertises that you get speeds of up to 1mbps, but in reality you never actually get those speeds- usually its around 300k-500k. Now the adsl package that I want to look at has a max speed of 384k..... does this mean that in reality I can expect speeds of 56k-100k- am I going to be back to where I was with dial up?

if anybody else is using adsl @ 384kbps- can you tell me what your average speed is, and does it fluctuate wildly depending on what time you go on- do you find that during the day for instance you getting really slooooooow speeds? or is it pretty constant

and is there any thing else I should know, that you wish someone had told you before you signed up 4 adsl?

My 384kb/s ADSL never fluctuates and it runs at about 325kb/s all the time. (international)

Local is close to 384kb/s.

Well, on my 384 I usally get 40 KBps which is what 320 kbps odd. Local and international seems to be this level, and no usually I do not have wild fluctuations. There are the odd day's when ADSL gives trouble though, but I do not experience this too often :)

You'll be far happier on ADSL. Got 384, speeds are consistent around peak (not exactly difficult to achieve)

while not the package you asking about, but i find my speeds to be consistently near the rated speed of my line.

Its only the wireless ISP's or Wireless options that have speeds that fluctuate heavily.

Meaning they say 1mbit but u only get 400-500kbps , reason for that is. Your Antenna or proximity to the closest tower to you. Signal Strength and Signal Quality has a big effect on how your internet will run *your download speed and pings*
So I-Burst may give you full 1mbit speed if u had a Directional antenna pointing to the Tower *basically giving u optimum signal strength and quality*

ADSL gives u full speed most of the time. at worst people get 80% of the line speed. 384K might give u 310kb per sec or so depending on how close to the exchange you are living....

DSL is the way to GO :>
