Hi

Just like to know,im on a 4mb line...my router tells me "attainable" is 13549?!

what i want to know is if i phone Telkom and ask them to max my line ..will i be paying more or is there any fee?

Im with Mweb on(line and data)

thanks

4mb is the most expensive consumer adsl connection that telkom has. So no. The 10meg guys pay the same price.

^^ Yip and just to add to what Qwikslver said, you will only be limited to speed on the account you have.

Capped - full speed (about 920KB/s +-)
Uncapped - 4MB if you paying for that will limit you to 4MB however you may see some overhead , about 500KB/s otherwise the 10MB is more in price :/.

It is worth the upgrading to FULL 10MB if your line can support it :), the bigger factor is pricing of uncapped 10MB.

Ok thank you! What i dont get is that telkom tells me that my line is max at 4mb..

But router says attainable 13mb??

Thats Telkom for you.

Phone and demand that they upgrade you. tell them about your router stats. Also, when you have done so, post results. it would serve as a good guide for people in similar situations.

Please don't confuse your router's attainable rate to what you may actually get (in our case MAX 10MB). These are just your router's internal calculations based on your SNR values. Your actual speed will depend on your line quality etc.

You can post your router stats here and one of the awesome members will tell you if upgrading to 10MB is worth a try, i myself was only upgraded in March/April this year to 6MB and then took a chance to get 10MB and have been real happy so far.

Post your stats and take it from there :).

You are on ADSL 2+, which means you can indeed get 10mb :)

Call them and ask to change your SYNC SPEED to 10mb, not "upgrade me to 10mb". You will get further with the former!

Well phoned Telkom..spoke to a techy ..and nope had to restart the router and my line can only sync up to 4mb :(

That's BS if your stats are anything to go by. You are on an ADSL 2+ exchange, which means that you are 99.9% likely able to. There are many stories of people here having to phone 3 or 4 times before they get someone who actually uses their brain...

If anyone else can confirm about this it would be good.

Silly old me - here is the thread I was looking for - time to call Telkom - will reference back to this thread on the other one I started.

PS: Anyone have the number handy

Edit - 10210 (duh) - 5 mins - got a good tech - "sync me line at 6m please - sure - 2 minutes later"

Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps): 635
Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps): 6144

Woot - will see if it makes a difference tonight

Well told them-please max my sync speed please..1st she said "hold on please"hello sir:well we cant cause your max is 4mb...me:sync not upgrade right? Telkom techy:oh sorry ,not upgrade? Me:no sync please Telkom techy:ok 1min please...Telkom techy:sorry i cant cause your line is max at 4m..she added by saying..please confirm with the person that told you that your line can achieve more than 4mb..cause on my side my system is showing you cant. :/...

What im seeing is..she got it wrong by tring to upgrade it 1st?so im feeling she doesnt know what she's doing?

Hi, if you enter your tel number here http://www.telkom.co.za/checkadsl/ what is the max available speed in your area. If this figure is above the 4Mb mark, then they have to, else if it states 4Mb, think not much you can do...unless I missing something...hehe

This is odd... If you are syncing at ADSL2+ and your upload speed is 507, then you really should be able to. Can someone else confirm wether or not there are ADSL2+ exchanges that don't allow for anything higher than 4Mb?

You could always just call again... maybe you will get someone who understands. When I changed my sync from 8Mb to 10Mb the guy was pretty clued up, so I guess I got lucky...

I would call Telkom again. Very often different operators give different answers when you call them. And armed with the info from the site Beavis pointed out may provide a bit of meat to your request.

Good luck.

Tim

The availability checker doesn't work at all.. My result was also 4mb max. I Emailed Mweb, & they confirmed 10mb max & upgraded my line for me the same day :D

Seems that i am not able to sync or upgrade on my number :(

In May 2012, my line was disconnected and contacted telkom to fix it. i then saw that iwas syncing at 10015 down and 1003 up.
Not bad, the sync mode was ADSL2+. Attainable rate on my DLink 2540 showed 18465 and sometimes 2000+ on the up.
however i was not able to connect to Mweb. after a long runaround, they found that i am connecting on a different tel number. nice huh? anyhow, they added the number to their system and viola connection made on my 1mb account.

in November 2012 i decide to go the stretch and test if my line can actually go 10mb and got an Axxess account. worked fine from the friday till sunday, when Afrihost and Axxess when for a ball of poo and since then i started to notice random disconnections. (could be the guy resetting the port on who's number i was connected :( )

i then get Telkom to fix my port issue to reflect my correct number and i was back on 2mb no problem. i then move my line to Axxess and place the order to sync / upgrade to 10mb. 2 days later i get 4mb. wtf? i contact Axxess and they say, sorry, your exchange is congested. i move my line back to Telkom to see if they can fix it and when i wanted to upgrade my line / sync to 10mb, they say my exchange is not capable.

Some crap about you get it if you are lucky (those pathetic people at 10210)

i spoke to 5 departments for several hours and each one says, you either have to speak to ADSL or Service Activations or the Internet guys or Upgrades or Faults or... get lost.

Nojoy, so i log a complaint, 4 days later, i get a call, "is your line speed issue fixed?" , "no it is not".
2 days later a call again. "is your line speed issue fixed?" , "no it is not".

http://www.broadbandstats.co.za/llu/ shows my exchange is 10mb enabled.

I even tried to apply for a new line and a staunch lady told me, "my exchange shows 10mb, and that the guys must give me 10mb"

Service Activations said ADSL is the only department with access to upgrade or sync my line to 10mb.

my 4mb is stable and here are the stats currently.
